Default Need to get the car appraised

Looks like I am switching insurance after the wedding, local rep knows the car is built to race but said they will cover it as an antique/show car (1,000 miles or less a year limit) and I can keep a regular plate on the car!!!!!!!!

They said I just need to get it appraised and they can insure it to that value and thats it.

How much on average does something like this cost and what are some good companies????

Only company I know that will insure a car that you tell them is also raced is Heacock Classic. It is covered everywhere except in the staging lanes, on the track or on the return road. Agreed value on $, you pick the mileage and they provide you a figure.

Only requirements:
The car can't be your daily driver, drive it to work or as a back-up vehicle. It has to be a pleasure vehicle.
It must be kept in a garage when not in use (except storage at a track during say a weekend race is covered as well)

My Nova on $25K coverage and 3,000 miles a year is about $320 a year.

There are books that show value. Even an 1983. We don't keep them here. KBB goes back to 1988 I think. Forget the man hours you have in the car. do you have bills of the items you've bought?

I wouldn't be bashful with your estimates. Start high with what you give the insurance company. If they start coming back with low numbers based on this reason and that. Ask one simple question. Why didn't present me with this first. I though I was your customer? I know it's a 1983. You insure cars right?

The rep asked me if the car was currently being raced and I said "no, I don't have time for it right now". She said ok you just need to get it appraised and we will insure it to that value.

With this insurance its not covered at the track and I only know of one company that will insure it even going down the track but from what I hear its pricey. If its wrecked at the track I am not going to tell them. This is more for if some idiot t-bones me.

I just went to Heacock Classic and requested a quote. I provided it in my mother's name however because it says the age must be at least 30 years old. (I'm 23)

I don't know if they would even let me drive the car if it was insured through them.

I have a great rate now, since the 2 toy cars are in my mothers name and I have my own daily driver. My cars are in storage at least 7 months out of the year anyways...maybe once a weekend.

Hell I've only put 300 miles on my Camaro in the past 3 years!!!

Anybody know of anyone else that would insure someone my age? (clean record)

I figured someone out there has to do it since I don't hardly drive the cars anyways. But like Juiced96Z said, I'm more worried about getting t-boned or something and getting screwed because of all of my mods

Grundy won't do it under 25 years of age, as that was my last insurance carrier on the Nova before switching.

Heacock recommended someone else to me, but they don't cover anything with racing

Found it in a search under drag car insurance or something close to that in the drag forum. It was for going down the track also. I think one will insure you on the return road. The others I think its just in the pits.

Most only insure you for when the ignition is off. Foud it all in the search.
