You have to decide do you want the most performance now or the best setup in the long run?

Glides are great, but until you get to a certain power to weight ratio you won't overcome the 1st gear loss.

Now most likely your car will go fastest with a TH400, down the road if you make more power it'll go faster with a glide.

It all comes down to money, if you plan to go faster than you are now, I'd just buy the glide and live with a little slower 60ft for now.

If you're rich buy a bad *** TH400 now and then buy another bad *** glide later

Then you can give me the TH400 next x-mas

Thats wild that the EPP car stood up like that with a glide and 3.70s! Must have a big mota.. I would go built th350 or 400. The first gear will be like leaving in your 2nd gear essentially. The majority of the cars running a glide have a 5000+ stall, and a pretty steep rear gear. I like them, but I would be around the 700+ hp mark in a 3200lb or less raceweight car before I ran one. But, theres nothing wrong with one on the street, hell, thats where they came from in the first place out of old impalas and such! second gear is still 1:1...

I would say go for the glide myself. When I do decide to step it up, I'll be going with the glide as well. I'm staying NA and I'll be running a 1.81-1.86 straight cut gear set with a well matched torque converter. I feel comfortable that we'll go faster and hook more consistently. We should be just over 600 rwhp.

There's a lot of little things needed to make the swap so if you do it, be sure to do a write up on the journey (do's and don'ts or lessons learned)

yea im aware....ive got a friend that has a few glides sitting around offered me to have one/use for parts costs only and hell put it together...hes got a 1.76 and 1.82 gear set but he said the 1.82 werent that strong...id rather leave better and have a bigger rpm drop 1-2 then leave soft and pull great down the track...

If you want some examples of the difference in the glide and t350 in a mild street motor under 400 hp, then I can share what I have learned with my 55 Chevy. Heavy car 3400 lbs. These are different combos I have tried:

327 chevy with TR3550 tremec 5 speed 5.14 gears: 12.97 @ 109 mph
327 chevy with glide 5500 stall 4.11 gears 12.88 at 103 mph (same engine as above)
350 Chevy with same cam and heads as previous 327:
TH350 2800 stall 4.11 gears 12.82 at 104mph
Th350 2800 stall 3.50 gears 13.10
Powerglide with 3400 stall and 3.50 gears 13.3? at 103 mph
Tremec 5 speed 4.56 gears 12.80 at 106 mph

As you can see, the glide can run the as the th350 in a milder car, but gear and converter selection is extremely important. I would rather drive the 3 speed with higher gears on the street than the 5500 stall 4.11 geared glide myself. with milder converter the glide only seemed about 2 tenths slower. But the glide kills at consitent ets.

I will be going back to the glide with 3800 stall and 3.70s when I swap in my new 489 inch aluminum head solid roller big block. I am sure it will turn the glide with few complaints. I may even back off the converter some more. I can live with the 0.2 sec difference in et in the name of consistency for my mild bracket racer!

I just installed a Glide in my car! I want to leave the line with alot of power and with the taller first gear this should let me do it. I say do it. I read comparisons of a guy who installed a glide in a relativly stock car and compared it to his 4l60e times and the glide netted him 2-3 more mph and 2 thenths quicker in the 1/4. I will be at the track next weekend so I can give you an update on it the outcome.

Made the swap from the 4L60E to the Glide last year. The best 60' was 1.54 compared the low 1.4's with the 4L60. My ET dropped as well. The motor was just freshened up, running the same heads the same cam, just a new set of rings and the swap out from the tranny. Anyway the car actually picked up ET.

Raceweight is 3250, running ATI Glide 1.76 gear with an ATI Converter 4500 stall. I shift at 6900 6950, the RPM drop goes down to 5200-5250.
