Default Front K-member construction/strength

We're running into a couple of sangs with the last few stages of the mustang project. Basically we need to re-engineer some of the K-member on the mustang. The only things that are on the K-member now are the front control arms and the steering rack. The K-member was orginally made with 1 5/8" CM with engine mounts, the motor mounts have been moved to the frame rails with a motor plate. Basically how strong does the tube running between the two frame rails need to be...i.e. What size tubing could I use to replace the lower bar? My inital plans were to cut a C shaped relief out of the tube and install a piece of chromoly to make the bar solid again. The tube is 1 5/8" and the relief would take it down to about 40% of the orginal tube.

Default

On most of my k-members I make the center tube removable. Unbolt the rack and the tube unbolts and is out of the way. Call me or send me a pic of what you want to do.
