Quick tire question
Quick tire question In the drag tire sticky it has pics of the MT et radials. The pic for the 315/35/17 size has a little more tread than the higher profile tires. Are all the et radials in that size like that? I want to switch from nittos to et radials, but the lack of tread in the rain scares me. Will that little extra tread on the ones pictured help at all? I don't normally drive my car in the rain, but you never know when you might get stuck in a storm! And no I do NOT want to run drag lites and slicks at the track, I want one tire on my ZR1's to handle street and strip. Thanks in advance.
They have more tread, but the problem with the low profile tire is that there's no sidewall to help plant the tire, so you have to set the suspension up really really aggressive to hit the tire very hard to get them to really work.
Can it be done yes, but the car's gonna need double adjustable shocks at all 4 corners IMO to really work right.
Nitto's in teh rain are tolerable, the m/t's are worse, but tolerable. Nothing like trying to get home on a ET street.... Been there doen that once, not fun.

Thanks for the replies! My car is not gonna be setup for only drag racing It will have koni da's all the way around, plus some more suspension when money permits. I'm trying for an all around setup (I know that's damn near impossible) so a good sticky tire on 17" wheel is about as close to best of both worlds as I can get.
Take a look at the BFG drag t/a if they make them in that size. The Nittos are great on the street and rain but suck at the track. I think im going to give BFG a try this time around. M/t and rain doesnt mix.
