Default Initial QA1 Shock Setting For Heavy Car

Hey guys,

I plan to hit the test and tune this Friday. This will be my first time out this year and I was wondering if you can offer some advice on what QA1 Shock settings to start out on

~3800lb car
N/A 402rwhp (not spraying this week)
might launch at 5k rpm's
M/T ET Streets on the rear, sportmans upfront

Solid end links in the rear etc etc etc.

ALL 4 shocks are the F-Series, 12-way adjustable QA1's
300lb springs upfront
stock springs out back

Thanks guys!

Key:
1 = full soft
12 = full stiff

I'm thinking 8/8 in back, and 2/2 in front. You don't want the stick car to unload the suspension after the initial launch, meaning you launch, front end comes up, and you want to keep that front end up.

I just went to the track and have ET Drags left at 6800 also a M6 but I have "R" front shocks and stock springs.

Started 0 Front / 6 Rear and the car picked the front up but would then bog and unload (347 H/C NA) the best pass with still some bog was 3 to 4 Front 6 to 7 Rear (I don't have my notes handy). I need to adjust my LCA's and put the drag swaybar on and go back to test some more.

Matt I think you'll need more rpm, 5,000 might be ok for a standard weight f-body, but at 3,800 pounds you're going to need to leave with some rpm to keep the motor from bogging, that little power with that much weight will pull the rpms down quick. I'd go at least 6,000.

I say 2/2 front and 6/6 rear is a good starting point for any setup..... then make adjustments from there depending on what the car does....

Yeah your probably right...i'll see what she does at 6000. I know for sure she isn't going to lift the front or anything

I might back it down when I start spraying off the line though..

You'd be surprised what the car will do once it is set up right dropping the clutch at 6,000 rpm. Just because it is 3,800 pounds doesn't mean you can't get it to leave hard.

As far as the nitrous, where ever you hit the button at will be your peak torque and the lower you activate the more torque it will be, so even leaving at only 3,000 - 3,500 on the nitrous it's still going to pull good.

No kidding I made a few shake down passes and the chassis builder that built the rear end was telling me to launch the car already and I had to try 5000 before I got up to 6000 and 6800. This is my ~3700 pound car it only had the rear seat taken out, I forgot to take the spare and jack out, and I weigh around 245.

If it is your first pass on the new setup don't go ***** out, start lower and go up each time assuming the car is going straight and there are not problems. You need to make sure it is not pulling or steering to one side and that your suspension is still in one piece.

Even if it does hook on the first pass it won't do much good if it heads for the wall lol.

yeah friday is for shake downs.

what'd be a good rpm to start at? 4500 and then granny shift it?

4500 and keep on it?

I also have to figure where to start with the air pressure on the E/T Streets?? 11.50 x 28"

fronts are skinny sportsmans...where should those be? full?

I'd put the front shocks at 2, right rear at 7 left rear at 6, this will help keep the car level. Front tires at 40 psi, rear tires I'd start them at 12 cold before the burnout. Leave at 5000 the first pass. If it bogs, try leaving at 6000, if it still bogs, put another lb of air in the tires until you get a touch of spin, beter to have the tires spin a revolution or 2 and not bog the car then to have it leave hard and fall on it's face, especially with nitrous, that bog could cause a backfire if it's bad enough

I have a similar car and set up......3880 with me in the car...408,m6.....I dump it off the limiter and it dead hooks, then bogs a bit and picks right back up.....28'' tire w/4.11's.........I'm going to 4.30's I think I don't have enough gear for the tires.....

qa1 r's on the front set at 1.........I think 5k is not enough......I don't spray so mine can fall a bit but we're working on that....tires 14lb....

To avoid making another topic and plus it puts info together...

I have a car that's 2865 with me in it. QA1's on all 4.

Not sure which the backs are on, it was extremely tight... I loosened it up and didn't really help anything. Now I'm on to the fronts.

I left them what they were from QA1 which is all the way loose, I took it 4 clicks to the tight side... Would you all think that's a good spot? I'm only getting ~1.31's, had a couple 1.2's but the car got that with 200 less HP. It was at one point picking the front end up, chirping the tires twice then laying back down. The car is barely lifting the front end which is very dissapointing
