I've sen one with an iron lsx motor, 8.50 cert cage, glide down to about 3000 That was with a vfn hood, everything gutted, not really cut up just gutted, and a pin on hatch with speedglass.

Put a plastic windshield in, and an alum block motor and the car would have been about 2850, but that's about as light as I think it's gonna get.

tektrans I can't believe you're running the 8 ply, christ that's like 50 lbs of rotating weight tha can go away. There's your 9.30, it's a tire swap away LOL

I know the moroso ds1's are 1lb a tire lighter then et front's, we weigh'd one of those too.
I can't beleive it!
I got the 8 ply a way back because I was running the iron block and I thought she was a bit heavy up front and MT recommends the 8 ply for cars 3000lbs and over.

Can I really save "50lbs!" ? Which tire do you recommend? Sh*t I'll get another set of Weld skinnies for the track and I'll still use the 8 ply's for the street.

I'd get a set of the Moroso DS-2 You're car is lighter then mine I'm sure, and I put them on without much of a worry.

I'll be going to the track next weekend to make lic. runs, I'm very curious as to what all the changes are gonna net.

If you're gonna get another set of wheels too, get those weld magnum's, or whatever they are. The ones that have the real thin spokes that look like they would be a spindle mount wheel but they aren't.... those are the lightest ones I think. NOt sure how much lighter they are but I know they are lighter, mine as well go all the way with it.

50 lbs off the nose of your car though with the way it leaves may require an adjustment. No I take that back, WILL require an adjustment.

I think you can get them even lower with some creative thinking. My car was 2950ish before I started the turbo setup. With all the weight I pulled/cut out it will probably offset the weight of the thumper setup. I still have a lot more to pull out as well and still have stock steel hood, stock brakes, stock upper/lowers, heat, radio, speakers, and stock leather seats.

I think with a minitub, some creative shortening of the rearend, drag brakes front/rear, pin on hood, kirkeys, !pass airbag/bracket, !rear bumper support, and a few other things there is another easy 250 lbs to pull out of the car.

You must be talking without driver, the 3000 lb lsx block'd car I was talking about was with a 180 lb driver.

I don't know but my car sure has a lot less metal than I started with, I have the pile on the side of my garage and with what I have pulled out since the mini tub it
has to be over 200 pounds maybe 300 with all the wires and extra stuff.

Ha! That's true. The Magnums will break the bank for sure-wife will divorce me.
I'll probably just wind up with a used set of draglites.

Some good info in here! I wonder what I could expect going from metric radials to ds-2's? They probably weigh another 10-15 pounds more per tire. Sound right?

I don't know what that tire weigh's, but I am sure they are heavy as ****

One thing to keep in mind, these LW tires aren't all that great with an evasive maneuver and they should not be used for street driving. They will not last long and are not designed to stop quickly, or turn quickly

DS2's are way lighter than MT Sportsmans, I have held both in my hand and DS2 + rims are as light as it gets.

My Camaro is 3290 raceweight with me in it (I'm 200), so with drag brakes, k member, u/lower control arms, and let's say 40 lbs of misc. stuff, I'd say I could pull another 150 lbs out of the car. Car already has all the usual weight reduction including behind the dash and a lot of the little stuff. I have a 6 pt roll bar too and short dual exhaust.
