Building your own headers?
Building your own headers? Hey have alot of you guys tryed building your own headers? Ive been looking around for some Misc bends in mild steel does anyone know where do get that? im thinking 2" .. BBC .. I was told 2100$ for some headers... OUCH!!
My fab guy said he could make me a set of mild steel oens for I think 1500, granted this was for an lsx, I opted for a production set of kooks only because they're available and I didn't see a need for anything custom.
I have seen a couple sets of BBC headers for 4th gen cars, oen set that requires notching the actual frame rail in several places to get them to fit, and this was with a motor plate/mid plate so there's no movment, and the headers go in the car in 4 pieces, with a slip on collector. 2.25 inch primaries with a 5 inch collector.
It all depends on what you are trying to do. With a BBC, I don't think I would go anythign smaller then a 2 inch with a 4 inch collector. Even that isn't really that big.

Verdad Gallardo The guys I know with teh 2 1/4 headers are running a 632 with 2 foggers to it. I don't think a 496 would really need more then a 2 inch header to be honest.
Maybe a 2 1/8 but even then I dunno. Ground clearance is going to be a concern, unless you notch the floorpan to clear around the headers, which when putting a BBC in one of these cars is probably a viable option.
