stalled autos, do gears help much?
i really feel that big gears are overemphasized as long as you are going through the traps where you need to be. the converter is multiplying the torque, so the effects of the rear gear aren't as important. choosing the right converter is much more important.

I went from 3.73's to 2.73's (busted my 3.73 10 bolt and got a 2.73 rear to get me by) with a SY3500 and honestly didn't notice THAT much of a difference. I have no times to back it up...just seat of the pants. I agree with gator that the converter choice is much more important.
Like they said above... It's the whole combo. The higher the numerical gear, the tighter the converter will ultimately be... Essentially, for a given converter, the more resistance to moving the vehicle forward (tall tires, numerically low gear ratios, heavier car, etc), the looser the converter will act... So for example... If you have a blown 3000lb car with 26 in tires and 4.10s with a 3500 stall that actually flashes to 4000 and you add 500lbs worth of equipment, 28 inch tires and 3.42s you'll blow through so much usable torque that you could very easily HURT the car's performance. If you post what you're planning on running and with what, you'll get quite a few suggestions.
