Default Noob Question...

I am sure I will get some flack for this but here it goes...

Is 0DA at sealevel equal to 0DA at 1000ft or does the actual elevation need to be taken into account when correcting times?

I assume that the air quality is constant so there shouldn't be a difference but I have way of knowing if that is correct or not.

Thanks in advance....

No flack required. That's a good question. I race the west coast where the track altitudes vary from Tucson to Sonoma or Woodburn. That's a range of roughly 3000' of actual altitude. In addition, one climate (Tucson) is a classic desert environment. Sonoma is within view of the northern arm of the San Franciso Bay with a mild, almost Mediterranean climate. The elements that comprise an arbitrary density altitude (DA) figure are never the same. I maintain separate data bases of performance vs. density altitude when going from one track to another. 1000 feet at Bakersfield will not yield the same ET as 1000 feet at Las Vegas nor the same as 1000 at Tucson (as if that ever occurred). The differences can even be seasonal. 1000' at Bakersfield in August will not produce the same ET as 1000' at the same track in February.

Hope this helps clarify your question.

To answer your question yes. However, in order for the DA to be at zero at 1000ft above sealevel the air needs to be cooler and a higher barametric pressure than compared to the sealevel conditions.

That's what I was thinking... Thanks for the replies...the track I race at is 632ft Elevation (which is decent to begin with)... So far I've gone 13.1 @ 108 2.1 60ft with -127ft DA and the Fiancee pulled off a 13.1 @ 106mph 1.99 60ft @ 265ft DA and I didn't know if the Sea Level guys were getting better times because of actual elevation + great DA or if the air itself was all it took.

Trying to knock out a 12 second pass here and need good air. haha.

Definately got the mph for it. My wife had a 01 A4 LS1. It had a lid, cutout, and 3.42's. It went 12.97@108-109. So some good weather and track prep and you got it.

The track I race at is only 50ft above sealevel but being in FL its hot year round.. well it feels like it. I personally think all the fast record ET's (albeit ford or chevy) are done from tracks up north. They may be above sealevel but when you have mine shaft air (negative DA) then its hard to beat that. Right before the winter hits, poses some good air up north. My buddy races at MIR and one day he ran a new best. The DA on his run was -500. I'll never seen that down here. -Mark
