Default Mustang Dynos...

Anyone have any experience with Mustang Dynos?? Are they known to be completely innaccurate and lowball HP numbers??

I was working with a couple above-ground Mustang dynos today and they were way off on accuracy.

Here's the numbers they put out:

1999 Honda Civic EX 130HP stock: 54WHP
2000 Ford SVT Contour 200HP stock: 90WHP
2008 Chevy Cobalt SS 260HP stock: 175WHP

Is this common with Mustang dynos or are these dynos just completely miscalibrated??

Really doesnt help when you use stock flywheel horsepower numbers and try to compare them to actual WHP...

Even if the dyno reads low. Which this one hella does.

Well its pretty well known that the Civic should dyno around 90WHP, the Contour should put down around 160WHP and the Cobalt should put down around 230WHP. Thats what other owners are getting for stock dyno numbers on these cars.

I own a Mustang 1100SE.

Setup is the key. When they are shipped the corrections are really low. They offer to send someone out to setup the dyno for $2000. Most shops opt. not to have that done and don't relieze that Mustang will change the correction perameters. So the owner is left with a real low hp reading dyno. It's consistant, just low.

We spent alot of time setting ours up to be very consistant but the #'s are extremely close to a Dynojet calibration.

So,yes and no on the Mustang dyno question.

I lost 25hp going from a jet to a stang dyno. Some are close. like he said set up is key,but they should not be that low.

We also have a Mustang MD-1100SE dyno here, and Mustang Dyno did come out here for the initial set up, back when we got it six years ago I think they only charged $1600.

Here's a post I replied to a while ago in another thread. Go to post #8
