The engine was stock, right off the assembly line. It was built on the same assembly line with the Corvette LS3, equipped with 2010 Camaro manifolds and converters. It is the E-Rod series engine, emission legal for use in new title builds and most 1995 or earlier production vehicles in California.

The engine used in the show had never been run before the dyno test. You can see this when the manifolds were changed. The exhaust ports are clean aluminum. It was ran with a electric water pump, short air inlet tube, and a high flow air filter. There were straight sections of 2.5" pipe installed on the converters, and Flowmaster mufflers.

They do not record using the SAE standard as GM does. They use the more common aftermarket standard. I was there for all the dyno testing, and the install in the car. Their dyno has been certified by the manufactuer, but I believe it is a little optimistic. Still, it made really good power, and was quite a improvement over the LS1 we removed.

Mike, just curiuous what is the MSRP on that engine? That was a sweet ride they put that engine into, makes me want a Factory Five ride.

Edit: I see gmperformanceparts.com has those starting @ $7500 rated @ 430hp, 424 tq plus all the goodies to run it in a hot rod type build. Sweet.

Someone over at camaro5 said they also dynoed a LS3 with no accessories, and large air filter and made close to 500hp too, I remember the LS1 with no accesories also made around 390-400hp.

But who knows, horsepowerTV also says you gain 20hp fro E3 sparkplugs and 80hp from royal purple....

Actually HPTV noted 8hp on their dyno from the Royal Purple regimen...but what's a zero/factor of ten between friends?

this is a really good idea. I know most people wouldn't spend this kind of money, but makes me wonder for some of us LT1 guys if we ever wanted to get over to ls power. This is as simple as it gets. Yes it costs a little more, but you get the full package, wiring harness, pcm, cats, o2, etc... I think only the accessory drive is missing to make it work in the camaro. I didn't notice a part # for the camaro accessory brackets, guess those would have to be sourced used.

I like the thought of dropping that crate LS3 into a 4th Gen F-body, running a stealth cam and maybe a painted/smoothed FAST intake and being smog test friendly. Would be nice for a daily driver, which has me thinking... More money, more money... lol

sorry to bring this back, but i just saw this episode on tv. i live in california and am tired of all the emissions laws, what would it take to put one of these in a fourth gen? would it bolt up to a 4l60e (if not i planned on getting a better trans anyway)? do they make an erod kit for an ls1/ls6? i planned on spending 10k+ on my engine build alone anyway, so this would be cheaper and smog compliant!
