Well Geoff with EPS speced the cam and will be the one doing the tune. I did say we could put a thicker head gasket on there if it was needed be he said he could do the tune. I will take your advice though and throw some race gas in there when the temps are a little on the high side.. Thanks again Tony..

It did like 27 ish at peak torque and 28 at peak power but it was only a few HP and Ft/lbs of torque better than when we were running a 25/24 combination in the engine and creeping up on the proper fueling (A/F ratio).

Good question though....I would have probably thought the same reading the name of the run (Steve @ Westech enters most of the data and changes we are making thru out the day in the notes as well as a quickie footnote in the name of the run to keep track of what we are changing/manipulating along the way!)

Thanks for all the positive comments guys....it will be fun to see what this engine is capable in Brian's C5 race car!

Cheers,
Tony

28 degrees max timing makes far more sense to me regardless of chamber efficiency. That engine is beautiful and I'm sure the new owner is excited to get it installed.

Nice #'s. I'm curious to see how that electric waterpump holds does on the road course.

Let's see FORD do that with a naturally aspirated motor....

I think they only use that for the engine dyno since that looks like the race version of that pump, which would be even more of a no-no for a road course than their street pump. I have a feeling that if this is going in a car that does only road course duty, they'll be using a mechanical pump.

Those are Katech valve covers with custom made inserts...here are the ones I bought for mine:

Although they've added some additional fittings for what I'm guessing is the dry sump system.

So how much would a motor like that cost? Fully built shipped to me

My money dyno says somewhere in the mid-$20k range with the dry sump, engine dyno, crating/shipping fees, etc.

Thats correct Steve.....that pump isnt even the customers water pump. Its the pump that Westech keeps on hand for all their LS engine testing.

No Dave....but Im glad you liked them....LOL

They were Katech covers (which are a bit pricey to start when you buy both the covers and the coil relocation bracket kit also shown in the pic) and then I invested some time with the help of my Engineering Mgr writing a program and engraving them on the CNC....after that carefully hand painting the lettering, flag, etc. which took alot of time. If your up for painting the logo yourself and are willing to spend the coin on the covers than it is something we could talk about. A have a pic of the cover before I painted it when it was just engraved.....you can PM me at some point should you ever really consider it but check the pricing on the valve covers/bracket kit first before you do!

Cheers,
Tony

Ouch, I see what you mean about the covers. Well, since spending that kind of coin on VCs is out, what about a decal? lol. Maybe something that would fit accross the back, inside of my WS.6 hood? It'd be the only sticker on the car, besides my black bird stripes.

Very nice Tony. Wish I had something like it.

How much torque do you think the .4 cr and single pattern is worth over the 243/247 grind at low rpm? I don't think the dry sump will make to much diff at 3500?

btw, whose parts are those in the background w/ engine on stand????

And those VC's look too expensive to go on a sleeper truck....and I can't afford them either. (Homer S. voice) Stupid Katech!

I'm also seeing that the 102 is about maxed at about 650HP. Thoughts?

Im sure you do!

Actually thats my personal engine going together in the background but there are two others to the right of that you cant see!....LOL

This motor was 5-10 ft/lbs stronger on the bottom.....about 4-5 HP down on HP compared to the 417 I did with the longer exhaust duration cam and slightly less CR. Kind of exactly what you would expect those small changes to do. Synthetic oil would have added about 3 HP but seeing as the engine must ship dry its not worth the $100 to see a few numbers on the dyno.

Anyway.....finally had a few minutes to put together a video from the day. If you guys have a minute click on it and check it out!

Thanks,
Tony

Does the owner plan to road race with that electric water pump?
If not which pump is going on there?

Would running e85 have allowed for more power?

Would it have run a bit cooler with e85?
