2002 LS6 cam results
Jason(Jason99TA) at Thunder Racing installed a 2002 LS6 cam into my 01 Z28 Saturday. Before I get to the dyno results, let me give the background info on my car:
Stock car except for Whisper Lid, FTRA(does nothing on a dyno), Hooker catback, McLeod single disk clutch, Chrome 17x9.5 Z06 replicas (the slightly heavier McLeod flywheel combined with the heavy aftermarket wheels certainly didn’t help the numbers out being that its more rotational mass to turn)......with these mods the car pulled 322rwhp/333rwtq.
Added FLP LT’s with cats......car pulled 338rwhp/345rwtq.
Added 02 LS6 cam and 02 LS6 valvesprings (reused the stock pushrods and retainers).....car pulled 360rwhp/348rwtq
See the graph below for before and after comparison.

There has been no tuning on the car whatsoever. The dyno was done with the stock limiter in place. As you will see from the graph, the LS6 cam actually lost me a small amount of HP under about 3800rpms, and some torque, but more than made up for it on the top end. Compare the before and after curves for both hp and torque from 4000rpms and up and you will see where this cam really shines over the stock LS1 cam, especially in the 5600+ range where the LS1 cam starts to decline. I am going to get Geoff at TR to do some tuning for me so I can get as much out of this cam as possible and get my limiter raised to where I can rev this cam to where it wants to be revved to. I also plan to add a ported TB (which I plan to do at the same time as the tune) and a ASP pulley in the near future. We think this should put me in the 370-375 range. Not nearly the fastest by any means. My car is my only transportation, so my goal is simple.....have a good running, OEM reliable setup that is fun to drive on the street which is also capable of pulling down some respectable times at the track.
I'd like to thank Jason for installing the cam for me. He is always willing to help a friend out and always does nice work. I'd also like to thank Thunder Racing for the dyno's and for all the good prices and service they have given me on parts that I have needed in the past.

You said you did 372 with the mods in your sig. The 375rwp/375rwtq....are those numbers with that TSP cam you have listed? I was asking since the torque difference was so big if those are infact your LS6 cam numbers. Thanks for the info.
P.S.- Yeah, you can email me the graph at chad_tate78@msn.com
I don't have anything I can use to overlay them though.

Ok...well, it looks like we both gained about 40rwhp from LT's and LS6 cam. I am just curious why you gained so much more torque than I did with the LS6 cam. If you notice, I only gained 3rwtq at peak. Lost some in a couple places. I am sure your duals have something to do with that. But comparing my 348rwtq to your 371rwtq...big difference there. Did you have any tuning done?

No, stock tuning. The car had this cam in it when I got it. I didnt even know it had it when I bought it, then I got ahold of the previous owner and he told me it had the LS6 cam. I didnt port my TB til way after I dynoed. Im not sure, but I read a couple things that said true duals with an xpipe will help midrange and peak torque. My car was a bitch til I put the headers on, my best time before those LT's was like 13.35 at 106 then I put the headers on and ran 12.59 at 111 which isnt the fastest for my hp but not bad. I've never weighed my sled, but I think its pretty damn heavy.

Also, looking at your graph and then mine. It seems yours peaks a little higher than mine does. Mine seems to peak around 5700 - 6000 and yours doesnt seem to peak til the rev limiter.

Your powerband will improve after you get her tuned. Your loss of lowend torque should be corrected. I didn't lose any power down low when I had my LS6 cam although I didn't gain much either, around 5-8rwtq until 4000 rpms. With JH Long tubes, ORY, LS6 cam @ ASP Pulley I made 361rwhp @ 351rwtq. After tuning at Rapid Motorsports it made 376rwhp @ 361rwtq so tuning was definately worth it.

Also, I can't get the pics to work for me, I tried to cut and paste, but it keeps saying "Forbidden".
P.S. Moderators, I completely forgot about the board having a Dyno section when I posted this topic. Send it on over if you want to. Thanks.

Chad, your welcome! I'm glad everything worked out well for you. 360rwhp isn't a bad start, especially since there are quite a few more mods left to be done. Tuning and a ported TB would easily get you 370rwhp.

Thanks Jason, yeah, we have still a few more things to do to it. Tuning, TB, pulley, thermostat. I may go ahead and pull the cats off, just to see how much, if any, I am losing there.

Hey Chad, I dynoed the exact same as you! I did 323hp and 334 torque w/ a lid and cutout. I also have a ls6 cam waiting to be installed so I am glad you posted your results. I will probably only see 17 rwhp though, because i do not have lt or plan on getting them. I am on a fool the dealer plan because I have the extended gm warranty until 75k. Congrats on your #'s!! With tuning, I hope to see 30rwhp, but it will be more like 25 I think. Luckily I have the ls6 exhaust manifolds though, so it won't choke as bad as a 2000 ls1 or before. Also I plan to do a ported tb, maybe some others. I'll post as soon as I do them. One more question Chad....could you really feel a big difference in the seat of the pants from 4k up, or was it all in your head??? thanks, banks

what are you guys setting your rev limiter at? I put in a LS6 cam and springs in my 98 LS1. It is going in a 81 camaro so I might as well have speartech raise the limiter, but dont know how far to go.
Also what is a good shift point for this cam? I am running a A4
