Default Furious!

I got my car dynoed today at 285rwhp and 307 ft. lbs of torque. The car has dynoed at 298 rwhp and 317ft lbs of torque before the stall converter and headers. I'm mad because I spent somewhere around $2000 by adding the trq. converter and headers, and my HP and trq. just went down. The shop said I'm running pretty lean and I could use a tune. Are my dyno numbers usual for the mods I have?? Any input is appriciated. thanx alot.

eh its a little disheartening to loose hp but keep in mind you went with a converter at the same time. Not to say everyone should stand to loose 15 hp & 10 ftlbs after this stuff especially considering you also put on headers. I'd bring it to the track and see how it does...remember dynos are only a tool.

Try a different dyno on a colder day...what can I say...does it feel faster..or just louder?

A convertor will make you loose power on a dyno just as above its a tuning tool. The headers may have may you go lean and loose power but if you tune for headers you will gain your power back and then some. I know how people feel when they go get dynoed and doesn't do what you want i am one of those guys. my motor only dynoed 400 hp and 378tq with my setup in my sig. But when i went to the track i went 11.31 at 121.50 in a 3500 pound car still in full trim. And then ive seen guys running low 12 high elevens with 420rwhp so go figure. Be a track king not a dyno queen. The track tells the tail.

My car was a DOG after the header install until they tuned it. Did you get any more details from the shop like A:F at different rpm's? Do you know anyone that can tune it for you? That's be a good idea.

A dyno is a tuning tool, take it to the track and compare resluts in the real world.

Thanks to everyone for replying.

Mongoose- I didn't get the A:F ratio or anything else. I'm currently going to be saving up my money to get my car tuned and hopefully things will work out. thanx alot.

I would get it tuned and get to the track.
Lets say the headers are a plus 20RWHP and the loose verter shows a minus 20RWHP on the dyno that would put you even, locked the verter and I would say 320RWHP.
Now,go to the track and I would bet that you will see 2 tenths from the headers and at least 5 tenths from the Vig 3200.I would expect to see a 7 tenths ET drop compared to same DA over previous set up.Good luck,I think you will fly when it is set up right[tune].

Brent, when my car had all bolt-ons, VIG3200, and 3.23s I put 299 down on the rollers ran 12.00s all the time. Put some sticky tires on it, loose all unused weight, stall it up to around 1800-2000 let er rip. You wont be disappointed.

I wouldnt worry about anything else until your able to tune the car so its not "a little lean" any longer. See if theres any way you can find out the A/F ratio... Did you measure A/F when you ran? If not, how were they able to tell you you were running lean?

Don't get too hung up on dyno numbers. My 98 dyno'd 290 stock, then the same with just a converter. 2 day later I went 12.9 at the track. I would drive the car at least a week to allow the computer to learn or adapt to the headers. It will take several full drive cycles to do this. Then you should re-dyno at the same dyno.

If you want to really wake er up get a nice street cam-224/224 then if you dont get in the range of about 350-370-whp, then I would be pissed.!!

I agree completly with Tuff.
Get her tuned and hit the track. With a good tire you are running mid 12's.

I agree with most of them above , dyno should be used as a tuning tool , other than that its just for braging rights. HAHAHA i have seen many low dyno cars go to the track and put a hurt on the guy that dynoed 30hp than him, so take it like that , its the timeslip that counts. Dam i dynoed 341/383 peak and was kinda pissed off then took it to the track and couldnt get it to hook up on full throttle and ran 11.90s at 112 all day with some not so good weather.

Brent, I understand being frustrated because you think you should have dynoed higher...but a dyno number means nothing in the grand scheme of things. What I mean is, how much better your car will probably run now at the track was well worth your investment, and unfortunately, a computer will not tell you that. A dyno number is really only a conversational piece for ricers and people that really don't race and talk about what their car dynoed at a Saturday night cruise in. Don't sweat it, go run your car, and enjoy your investment.
