Default Turn back the clock dyno session

We have it made these days when it comes to the abundance of parts, tuners and information. Let's turn back the clock to January 8, 2000 when I dynoed my barely 1yr old Camaro Z/28. This was a standard issue '99 Camaro with T56, stock LS1 intake and stock 3.42 gears on 16x8 rims. There was no tuner, just run, cool down, change parts and run again!
Pulls were made on a Dynojet 248H at Larocca's Performance

Run 1: Baseline with Flowmaster American Thunder catback
313 HP @ 5300rpm / 327 TQ @ 4300rpm IAT was 57.6*

Run 2: Stock MAF, "Direct-Flo" lid, Flowmaster CB
316 HP @5400rpm / 331 TQ @4300rpm IAT was 59.3*

Run 3: Granitelli 85mm MAF, "Whisper" lid, Flowmaster CB
320HP @5300rpm / 334 TQ @4400rpm IAT was 58.6*

I bought a 99 Z28 M6 brand new. I had the same basic setup as this except I had a borla catback.

We’re a long ways from that kinda setup but I really miss those days!

In 2014 I bought a 2000 Z28 A4 with 58k miles and bone stock. I it Kooks headers and duals along with a slp cai and made 321 whp and 331 torque... a really nice street combo.

This is awesome! Thanks for sharing. These things were putting down crazy power stock 20 years ago.

I'm assuming this is the LaRocca's on the way to E-Town? I remember it being on the corner. My friend is actually having Jimmy LaRocca help him build a Coyote motor for his Cobra.

If you mean understated, that is common with performance cars for insurance purposes. Everyone did/does it.

I remember reading a lot about the LS1 in magazines when it first came out. I still have an old Camaro Performers(I think that's what it's called) where they put the LT1 against the LS1. They were shocked at the numbers it put down to the wheels. I'm sure if I went through my hundreds of old GMHTP they have similar articles. Considering what its direct competitor, the Mustang, was putting down those numbers are crazy.

Nice reminder! And remember back in those days LS1's were just oil drinking piston slappers.

Lol. So many people rolled their nose up when GM said the ls platform would replace the old sbc as a hot rodders main engine choice... turns out it was true.

Back in 2002 I was all set to buy a 1997 LT1 SS Camaro I had found at a local dealership. It was white with orange stripes and a 6 speed. I wasn't convinced that the LS1 was anything worth while. Then one night watching street racing in south Philly, I saw a bone stock auto Z28 beating several LT1 powered cars......over and over. After watching that I was a believer. A few months later I found my car and have never regretted it.....even 17 years later
