Default Only 380 rwhp with a G5X3??????

Ok everyone... big mystery here.

My buddy has a 99 Formula WS6. It has around 70K on it. He just took it to Rapid to have Mikey work his magic. Here is the mod list...

LS1 Motorsports Lid
K&N (freshly cleaned)
TB Bypass
hacked off EGR tube
Hooker longtubes
ORY
Dynomouth (was a loudmouth)
Taylor Thundervolts
NGK TR55s
LS6 clutch kit
160* stat
ported LS6 oil pump
Rollmaster (I think) timing chain
Crane spring kit
TR hardened (maybe they are chomemoly - I can're remember) rods
G5X3 on a 114.
4.10's
Nitto's (@ 30 psi)

With all that stuff and a tune, it only made 380rwhp and 360rwtq. What is up with that? I would have thought it would have broken the 400 mark, but nope. You did read correctly that he is still running the LS1 intake. His gears are also whining like crazy, so that *might* be cause for some of the loss as well. Still, those 2 things couldn't add up to that much of a loss.

His clutch shows no signs of slipping, and he runs 92 octane or better.

I haven't talked to Mikey myself, but my buddy said he had to tune it in open loop. Mikey also mentioned that the car idled really well for that radical of a cam. He agreed that the numbers seemed a bit low for that combo.

I have no clue what to tell him. My buddy is pretty upset he spent that money to only get those results. What could be the holdup? Could it be that maybe they didn't send him a X3?

Any help or anything would be great.

I would say the tuning in open loop and ls6/whining rear end. Sounds like the rear end gears were either installed incorrectly or they just whine like my girlfriend That cam has a lot of exhaust duration and that means it needs to BREATHE!(ls6 intake)

But I'm probably wrong anyways, o well

Take it easy

Edit- My buddy with pretty much all those same bolt ons and through a 12 bolt/4.11's made 408/383 with the g5x3 all the while using shitty 91 oct. az gas and not a whole lot of timing(shitty gas)

I'm not really sure of the reason why it needed tuned in open loop. I don't even know the difference between open and closed loop anyway.

The gears were installed correctly, but he was under the impression he could go beat on them without breaking them in. They were fine until he hit the track

The intake is probably costing 15hp. What was the air pressure in the nittos? If theyre low it can eat a lot of hp. Ever ride a bike with tires that are low on air? It makes a big difference. Check the airfilter. If its dirty it can clog up the airflow. What kinda of dynomouth is it? A LM with bullet or modified stock catback? The stock catback has a 2.75" pipe vs the 3" of the lm.

It's a loudmouth that has a bullet instead of the unbaffled piece.

He just cleaned the air filter before taking it down there.

He also checked the pressure at 30 before sending it down there.

Im out of ideas. Maybe he will get lucky and a 2001 intake will add 25hp.

Or maybe dyno with open headers.

An LS6 intake along with an ASP pulley and ported tb should yield some nice gains. He would more than likely see 400rwhp.

Exactly what was said above
LS6 intake + 10rwhp
underdrive pulley + 7 rwhp
Bigger throttle body + 8 rwhp
Puts you at 405rwhp
Add in your whining gears and maybe you'd be up to 410
Sounds pretty good for a stock headed car. Just bring it to the track and see how she runs.
