Default Finally got the Chevy II on a dyno

It was a mustang dyno so I'm hoping that is why the results were low. Plus I'm going through a Dana 60 and running my heavy *** boyds.

On Motor. Looks like it was still making power when they shut the dyno off.

On nitrous

This was a simulated quarter mile run, but I let out of it cause I ran out of gear big time. I should have put in in 5th to finish but I didn't think quick enough. Check out that 60ft! they really had her straped tight.

Congrats, those are some good numbers on a mustang w/ that rear. I would love to have that car.

Not to burst your bubble, but from my experience, 1/4 mile dyno numbers are never near close. I have a friend with a Le Mans who went 10 something on the dyno, but my stock SS killed that thing from a stop and absolutely stomped the thing from a roll.

Very nice, I would love to have a Chevy II. With 500rwhp, a decent track and good driver you will see 10.90's.

DMNSPD- I don't expect that the dyno quarter mile is accurate at all, I just thought it was pretty neat to do it.

NOSjohn- I went 10.61 @ 126 with it. And that was with a 1.65 short time, so there should be a little more to be had once I get it to 60ft like it did last year (1.43).

I'm pretty happy with the results overall, especially considering I haven't tuned it yet. AFR was at 11.9 to 1 on motor and 10.6-1 on the bottle. Timing was also only at 24 deg. cause of these pain in the *** 98 knock sensors.

Boosted One -- where in maryland are you located? Reason I ask is because I want to have a good idea of where to take my ls1 to get it tuned and dyno'd etc. Ive heard good things from fbodycentral but just wanted to know where you took yours. Sorry to hijack the thread.

Actually I just noticed you took it to PA. Was it worth the drive or have you tried any shops in MD?

Allergik2dyin- I just took it up there because they had a dyno day special, 2 pulls and 1/4 sim for $40. I am in Cecil County, about 10min from Cecilcounty dragway. I do all of my own tuning, but thanks for the heads up anyway. I am going to go to another place in PA to actually tune on it. They only charge $75 an hour and it's about 25min from my house.

Id really like to drag my hoop up there to Cecil and check that car out, sounds like one nice swap project. I just finished my LS1 into 97 SS, (in 6 days no less ) and now I dont mind working on the car anymore with all the extra room. How is access on the duece?

Very nice Boosted One! I've always wanted to do a 63-64 Chevy II. I'm curious as to the weight shown on the dyno sheets. Is that supposed to be the weight of the car? I thought the 64 II's were in the 2400lb range?

I wish. Most of them are 2800 to 3000. I have alot of extra weight in it like leather seats, full interior, 10pt cage, disc brakes all around, Dana 60 rear (damn near 100# heavier than a 9"), plus the 17" wheels are heavy. That weight shown is with me in the car, and I'm 165lbs.

WOW, I never would have thought. I've been looking through novaresource.org and it shows most of the base model Chevy IIs in the 2400-2500lbs range. But then again, you do have a lot more weight put into it with that cage, seats and rear.

Once again, very nice!

I've been kicking myself for the past year because I had to pass up a running '63 because I was short on funds. The guy only wanted $1200. I've seen them go for as much as $4000 just for a rolling chasis. I wanted to do a carbed LQ4. Ah hell, hopefully another one will come around one day.

If you don't mind, what headers did you go with, and how did you mount the motor?

Any more you can't hardly pass any deals on old cars up. They are starting to go through the roof! I've passed a few up myself that I really regreted.

I made the motor mounts and headers. The mounts I just fabed up out of 3/16 plate, and the headers I made with a bunch of 1 7/8" U bends and sent them off to Jet Hot. If you click the link in my sig. I have some pics of the headers being built on the 2nd page.

That's a POS 305. Seriously one of the worst engines used in the 3rd gen fbody.

Hmmm... Perhaps I have my number wrong? I thought the LQ4 was the Iron Gen3 Vortec 6.0L LSx style motor. Well, whatever the hell they name it. Then get a GMPP LSx style carbed intake manifold and the MSD controller for the coil packs.

I have been wondering what one of these would run like with a carb and that manifold. I would bet it will make more power but loose a little driveability.
