Default What can I do now??

Hey folks, here's the dilemma: Mods are in my sig. Car made 385/382 upon my last dyno tune pull. Apparently, my car just doesn't like timing because it is only running like 21* WOT to keep away from the high end detonation I was getting. I know this is killing the power potential here but I am afraid there's nothing more I can do with it. I am running TR-55's and although someone told me a set of TR-6's may help, I can't imagine they would that much. I'm sure I'm leaving at least 10-20 RWHP on the table and that aggravates the **** out of me. I'd been pondering this for a while but just lately it's started to become a project for me again.

My heads are 5.3's milled "30", which is pushing my CR to about 11.6:1 and is surely contributing to the detonation problem. I have a PCV catch can on the car, too. Best gas I can get here is 93 octane so it's not bad. What are my options to maximize this setup? It kills me to have that kind of cash in this car and not get at least 410 at the tires. I would like some soild solutions besides "run 100 octane and get a retune". Any and all opinions welcome. Thanks, everyone.

Okay, run alky injection if you don't want to run race gas. Sorry to say but with almost 12:1 compression and not using higher octane gas, your power is going to suffer. You have to compromise at some point.

Some other items you might try if not done: lower thermostat, bigger/more fans, water wetter, diff. spark plugs, etc ...or try everything together.

Thanks, John. I was afraid I was at the moment of compromise, too. Sent you a PM. Anyone else?

Maybe run a thicker head gasket and drop that compression a little. I think thats the best bet, my opinion only tho.

yup with this hot/humid weather you're gonna ping like s.o.b. way too high compression for this climate for a d/d.

thicker headgasket, change heads, or run different pistons, a cooler plug might help a little.
