How would you go about this? I can't figure it out, since if you left it in drive, went up to 4th gear, and mashed it, it's gonna downshift.....which you can't do on a dyno to get a full pull, right? How do you do it?

usually, when un locked, you want to do the run in your third gear. So wat i do is put here in regular drive (or "3rd" gear).... this might be stupid but you know the gear selection i speak of right?...... ok...just checking!!!
anyways, bring her up to about 3k and start your run but dont smash the pedal for she might downshift.....you wont get a lower reading like 2500 but it is possible.
When locked....that is easy...just bring her up to 2rd gear and let her have it!!!
Good luck!!

so, if you lock the converter, you dyno in 2nd?????? anyways. you dyno in 3rd gear. on both of my cars i run them up to 3200 rpms with the selector in "3". floor it and it doesn't downshift. that's how to dyno an automatic.
