Default Can an A4 Dyno at 500+ RWHP?

Anybody doing this? I'm having a motor combo built that put down over 550 to the tires through a M6 so I was hoping for 500 or so horsepower through my auto. I ran across someone that's going to be helping me with my chassis setup on my car and he told me to not worry about dyno numbers with an auto tranny. He also told me there's no way in Hell I'll ever put down over 500 through my A4. He said not to worry what the dyno said, to just worry about how the car ran at the track. He gave me two examples of cars he's worked on and still is working on that put down 355 to the tires and ran 7.10's in the 1/8th and 11.20's through the 1/4 with an auto and another that put down 430 to the tires and runs 6.70's through the 1/8th in 90 degree nasty humidity weather. I guess he's right. It should only matter what the car runs at the track but it sure would be nice to come on here and say that I've got 5xx RWHP. Heck, 346's are now claiming 5xx to the tires all over the place. I'm hoping a high compression 408 w/Absolute Speed Stage III LS6 heads and 246/250 cam should be able to make the same power as a H/C 346. Any thoughts?

My GTO A4 made 535rwhp (6300rpm)/ 503 rwtq at MTI two weeks ago w/ the Yank 3600 converter locked. It is a MTI 455 LS2 block, LS6 Stg 3 heads, 11+/1 cr, 1 7/8" Kooks, Fast 90/90 and a relatively small cam 243/243 .653 lift 114lsa. There is a lot left to exploit with better heads and more cam. If the 408's are making 550ish thru a 6 spd, you should be close to 500 with same setup considering additonal drivetrain loss. You might consider AFR 225 or the new ET 265cc 11 degree heads for max power. Good luck.

your buddy is right. but i think your setup will get you there. make sure to have the LSX 90mm setup. i have a buddy that made 492 w/ ls1 heads ported by AFR, dont know what cam, 100% full exhaust with tail pipes, 90mm setup and 9:1 compression, rossler tranny and a 12 bolt. they retarded the timing so he could run 100 shot and then the motor made 472.

I've heard as much as 75 horsepower but I sure hope that's wrong. I think the more horsepower you make the larger the difference between the two. I'm running a pretty big converter too (PT4000) and I've heard that a loose converter is going to cost me big time on the dyno as well. Still, running quicker than a M6 car that's putting down a hundred more horsepower kinda sounds cool too. I've personally seen that aforementioned 430 RWHP car run 6.7's @ 100 MPH in 90 degree heat so I guess the dyno really doesn't tell all. I haven't seen the other car with 355 RWHP make a pass but I have no reason to doubt the claims on it. Like I said, I've love to dyno over 500 to the tires but I'm more interested in running mid 6's in the 1/8th and 9 anything in the 1/4. I"ll surely post up dyno and track performance numbers when available. Thanks for any and all thoughts on this subject.
