Default Is this valve float?

This is off a friend's SBF 331 with AFR heads and a 232/240 cam.

We're trying to figure out why it lays flat when it should keep pulling.

Possibly cam timing may be too advanced but that's a guess. No idea what valve float looks like but I know the engine will generally refuse to rev when it gets to a certain rpm. Hydraulic lifters adjusted too tight could cause that also. What kinda exhaust is he running? Could a converter or something be stopped up? Why does the pull end at so low of an rpm? Peak hp definitely seems like it's at too low of an rpm compared to the torque.

What intake is on the car...that almost looks like there isn't enough flow through the intake manifold at the higher RPM's....

Does the car feel like its still moving or does it feel like your trans just broke or something else broke?

If it is still moving and revving fine, my guess is valve float.

If it acts as if something is broke or that the revving just goes to ****, my guess would be not enough air getting into that sucker!

Thats not valve float. Valve float will cause the power curve to plummit, not stay flat. It should also become very wavey.

I had valve float and it ended up being the dreaded 5800 harmonics. It fell 30hp between 5800 and 6000 and then picked back up 40hp. Not enough spring on my setup to overcome harmonics with heavy rocker arms. If you have aftermarket rocker arms switch back to stock and try again. Or shim the springs 10-20 thousandths or heavier springs.

Looks like the PCM might be pulling timing. Was your hood closed.
Elevated IAT's will pull timing to limit rpm.

I don't agree with this. At the end of the thread, it was found that the cause of the problem at the higher RPM on his car was the exhaust system and one of the converters.

Check out the graph in my signature. The power plateaus and stays flat from 6k-7k because the LS1 style intake isn't flowing enough to make any more power.

Put a better manifold on it and throw it back on the dyno.

its not toooo bad on the top end, but it could be leaned out a hair.

from the post it looks like it's a small block ford, which means it would not have an LS intake or typical LS1 problems

That doesn't change the fact that the problem here is lack of intake flow. An intake restriction will look the same on the dyno for a 5 liter as it will for an LS1 as it will for a honda.
