hp and torque

hp and torque what makes hp lower or higher or equal to torque. some cars have 400 hp
and 400 torque, my 02 stripper has less hp than torque. but it has
273 gears in it ,,, thanks

I've seen this trend also... where stock with little or no mods have more torque than hp!!I would like to add which is better??? I know torque is hp over time(or something like that)= rpm but i've seen low hp high torque cars do very well down thw track.

HP is calculated from your Torque.
HP = (Torque X RPM) / 5252
So your car makes less hp than torque because as you increase RPMs your torque value is decreasing more than you are increasing the RPM's ( Relative to 5252). Its all algebra.

thats right and if you ever pay attention to a dyno graph it doesnt matter whos it is or whats done to the motor the hp curve and torque curve will always cross at 5252rpm because of the calculation stated above.I the original question is all up to where the car makes peak torque.I dont know what rpm the factor would be at but i would say if it makes peak torque somewhere around 4500 and up then it will have a peak hp number that is higher then the peak torque number.And if torque peaks below that 4500 then it will have more torque then hp.Again i dont know what rpm decides this but thats a guess
