Default Average TQ/HP

I hear allot of folks on here talking about peak HP numbers but very few seemed to really be concerned with "average" HP/TQ numbers. I mean peak numbers are great but the numbers under peak are where a street/strip motor is going to spend most of it's time, even at the track. Has anyone ever posted a thread using this method instead of peak numbers only? I searched and found several good threads but nothing like what is mentioned above at all. Anyone?

Good thoughts, Jim. Even the magazines are publishing average numbers in their engine dyno tests. Most folks don't look at the avg. numbers, but for those who care (and know their significance, like you), they are there.

The Engine Masters competition uses only average numbers to score. If you look back over the 2002-2005 EM competitions, the scoring has stayed the same, but in 2002 the press focused on the peak numbers. Most of the press in 2005, just completed, focused on the total scores (avg torque + avg hp). People are quoting those numbers and do not even know the peaks. 1290 was a good score, but I don't recall any peaks.

"The times they are a changing" at least some places.

Perhaps you are on the wrong forum.

I concur, one would think that average numbers would be more important in a street/strip vehicle. I guess I will do some research on which cams are giving really good average numbers as that is where my car spends most of it's time, even at the track. Cheers !!!

most dynos can do a print out of xxx of hp per every 500 rpm or 1k rpm i believe. Same with tq. Kind of like a flow sheet but for dynos. Hope im making sense ?

What you are saying is true as I have spent a great deal of time tuning cars on dynos. Being from the Turbo Buick crowd I am looking for a good average and getting the TQ/HP curves as close to equal as possible. Now I just have to find the right cam.
