I've got the macs and I can't complain about my numbers. I got em 2 years ago for 700 bucks. I made almost 410 hp through an auto with the mids. If it aint broke, don't fix it.

I made 409 in my auto too through my MAC's in my RX7 with a terrible y-pipe.

Has anyone cut off the 2.5" collectors and put in 3" ones? I was thinking of trying that sometime soon. The macs are the only headers I could fit in my RX7 without going to really expensive custom headers and I don't see spending 1000+ to make a few HP. I cleaned up the primaries where they meet the flange, but I want to redo the collectors before I send them out for coating.

The MACs are a great header. However, do NOT use their cats...you'd be better off welding in your factory cats. I actually did just that with pretty good results. The LTs will make more torque down low, but peak HP will be close...

First off what do ball flanges have to do with power? I read a couple posts that said they hurt power but that doesn't seem right to me. I like the idea of the ball flanges because I had so many exhaust leaks and problems with the slip-fit pacesetters, it was a headache.

I have already seen what LT's and ORY can do on a past car of mine, want to try the mac midlengths with cats now...Are there any LT's you can use cats with? Thinking back, it doesn't seem like there is any place to stick a cat on that little ORY...
The ball flanges are a restriction due to their size.

Also, as said the mac cats are JUNK and flow worse than stock. If you need cats, get the ory and use some better cats.

That aside, you can run any LT and get their respective ORY and add your own cats. I've heard people are having decent luck with most LT's, ORY and the plain Carsound/Magnaflow 3" cats.

I definitely picked up power with my Mac's over stock. All stock with Mac's my car dynos 303 RWHP through an unlocked Yank SS3400. Stock 99's usually come in around 280-290 on the Mustang dyno I use with a stock converter.

I am running mac's now, should I keep them for the motor I am building( see sig) or will the added cubes make them become more of a restriction?

I had the MACs on a 2002 WS6 A4, Now I have a 2000 T/A M6 and I am goin to Longtubes Pacesetters to be exact. Macs were nice, had some fitment issues with the driver steering u joint. Other than that sounded good. Want to see what the longtubes will do.

With that much motor I'd spring for LTs...

If you are putting that much effort into a motor, get the LT's.

and they're STILL on there

I will be looking into changing the converters with some better flowing ones .. might even look into doing the ball flange mod.

Macs are a very good header IMO. A friend of mine ran 10.9 through macs with cam/nitrous and another friend ran 11.2 cam only through macs & duals. So i think they are a very good header if you arent looking to spend the money on LTs, youll gain more from tuning then anything else.
