Default lost 58hp going a4.

Just got the car back with the m6 to a4 conversion. Only put down 370 compared to 428 with the m6. This was with an unlocked converter and a 4000 yank stall. Does this seem right. What would have done locked??

Is it the same dyno and are both numbers corrected to SAE?

It could well be right, but there's likely to be some varience anyhow. Even without any changes you could easily have seen 10rwhp variance in numbers.

Also you haven't lost any HP at all. The engine is just as powerful, dirvetrain loss has increased but it's being used differently. Aftermarket stalls are not as efficent as stock ones, and being unlocked I can well believe the numbers are not far off.

You didn't loose anything. They are just Dyno #'s.

Check out the numbers in my sig. Our setups are similar only I have an auto and I put down 409 HP LOCKED. Unlocked I could only guess how low, maybe 380, 385. Auto cars usually post locked numbers because thats how we tune them, locked. Maybe locked you'd dyno around 395, 400.

Also on another note, you might consider also that locked A4 #'s compared to a same setup M6 #'s are roughly 20-25 HP less. Hope this helps.

Dont get too caught up in numbers with an A4.My car only puts down 355rwhp and in a street race stick shift guys are always telling me how much more they put down on the dyno, but guess what happens when that light turns green.Im long gone

Im not really to concerned about these numbers. Im a believer that the auto do better at the track and thats all im really concered about. Just thought i would share my results. It was on the same dyno. Its funny to see the faces on people when they ask me if i put an auto in to make more power and i tell them i lost almost 60 horse. They are so confused. The stall is a blast to drive and i cant wait to hit the track on saturday.

When I went from M6 to A3, I lost bout 35 hp, but picked up a solid 4 tenths in the 1/4. But I could not drive a stick for nothing!

A few years ago we had an LT1 Turbo w/6 spd, had approx 575HP, went to high stall auto, had approx 474HP on our Mustang Dyno. However, his "force" pulling on the dyno straps increased approx 400 Lbs at given MPHs due to the drivetrain's TQ multiplication at the rear axle due to the higher stall.

Even though I have a 6-speed, I will say this....NO ONE can out shift an automatic! However 6-speeds are a lot more fun though, especially if you have a 12-bolt or 9".
