A4 Dyno Q?
A4 Dyno Q? For an auto car, how do they dyno it? On my shifter it reads-1 2 3 D N R P-so do they put it in 3 and just redline it then let off? Unlocked and locked, what does that exactly mean? I'm asking b/c I will be getting mine done soon and would just like some general info so I don't go into this completely blind.

when they did mine he started out like normal but he put the gera selector in 1st the ran the rpms to like 3k rpm then shifted ti to 2nd ran it to bout 3k again then put it in 3rd and set there for a second then he matted hit.
You will see higher horsepower if you lock the TC but make sure that the TC has been broke in before you lock it. If its not then you will burn up the torque converter clutch. Ask me how i know

You will leave it in 3 (3rd, Third), if left in D, it will allow the transmission to upshift to overdrive/4th. A dyno operator will start the car in park, put the shifter in 3rd, then allow the car to shift it self into 3rd gear. Most times you wont get a deep pull (2k+) more like 4k+ to redline.
I know you can lock the converter using the PCM, I did it on my 94, we dyno and tuned with the tranny locked, no upshifts or downshifts, then make the corrections to the actual program that was run on the streets.

In essence yes, the software assumes your in the 1:1 ratio. If you ever had a car kick down on the dyno, it creates a spike which shows how much power is being put to the pavement. Not all cars have a true 1:1 so they gotta pick a gear, Nissan 350's have a weird tranny ratio.
my car put 326 rwhp 345 ftlbs to the wheels the one run on the dyno that it down shifted to second it gave hp numbers of 345hp and 366 ftlbs so in a essence second gear in an a4 would give you a higher hp although not accurate
