Graph?
As has been said, the massive tq could come from your TC giving a massive spike at the shift point. And, it may be too early to say if those numbers suck. Really need to see a graph. Your TC and tranny could easily be hiding about 25 rwhp if the TC was not locked, and I assume the TH400 drains more than a 4L60E. And Mustang dynos are good, just read differently, meaning you may be down by another 20-30 rwhp compared to a dynojet.
Yes, poor porting in heads can kill performance. Bigger isn't always better. Its more how it flows that counts too (i.e. AFR 205s are among the best).
But we need a graph to see if there is an issue of fuel, etc... at higher rpms.
but went to start up the car today because it was losing oil pressure yesterday after the last run, and we heard a knocking noise cumming from the top of the block, maybe somewhere in the heads..wtf..everything is going wrong...
a mustang dyno- always read lower than dyno jet
th400- big *** tranny- robs power
big loose converter- big torque robs power
id say the dyno is right... with a 383 you're only getting a longer stroke which usually produces alot more torque which you have... usually to make high HP you need a larger bore which can accomodate a lager radius head which flows more air.
with 380rwhp on a dyno jet and that much torque the thing prolly hauls ***...
too many people look at 500rwhp on a mustang dyno as slow... but on the track it hauls ***....
if you want a dyno queen get a M6 tranny on a dyno jet and some fiske wheels and then add about 20lbs of air to your rear tires and right before the pull take your belts off....

Check back tomorrow......
