Default When tuning conservative...

When it comes to a conservative tune, do people generally make a dynorun with the highest numbers without any knock, then pull it back a little (the timing)? Or do they typically just use the highest yielded numbers with zero knock...

The reason I ask is because don't people typically see more knock on the dyno than they do on the street? If you saw 1 or 2 degrees, couldn't you leave that tune and have the possibility of not having any on the street (I understand this would be aggressive in doing so).

There is less load on an inertia dyno (like a Dynojet), but around the same load on an Eddy Current dyno like Mustang. With less load, you need to tune more conservatively because if it knocks on the dyno, then chances are good that it will knock even more on the street (more load). Best to keep adding timing until the motor stops gaining power. If the motor stops gaining power at 28 degrees and flatlines in power until 34 degrees, it's best to set it to the lowest timing where you made the best power. In this example it would be 28 degrees. Give the motor what it needs and no more. Same with air fuel ratio. Best to err on the rich side. If it makes the same power between 12.6-12.8:1 A/F ratio, it's best to set it to 12.6:1. Better safe than sorry.

How does a Mustang dyno load up? I figured about having to tune more conservatively on a Dynojet (simply less load).

Were you saying you still had to pull back about the same amount as a dynojet?
