Chassis Dyno question Good morning everyone,
I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not a chassis dyno compansates gear ratio when it calculates it's power figures. I mean, does the dyno know when the car is in second or third gear and calculate the power numbers accordingly?

Okay, so the dyno doesn't calculate the gearing into the power, so if you want an accurate number you should be in a 1:1 gear, like 4th in an M6 or 3rd in an A4?

Mustang Dyno's just figure you're in whatever gear is 1:1. On the 6L80E transmissions it's impossible. You're either at .85:1 or 1.15:1. So your numbers are either going to be inflated, or deflated. Any way you look at it, Dyno's are a tuning tool, and in no way are they going to tell you how fast your car is. The only way they should be used is to measure if what your tuner did made more or less power than on the previous pull. Case in point, we had a 1990 Mustang GT make 390rwhp and it ran a 9.20 1/4 mile. The car was set up to go fast, and had such a large stall, that it ate most of the power the engine was making.
