anyone use hi tech?
Camarokid,
This is Casey.
Sorry your not happy with your idle issues. I spend over 4hrs on your car working with the idle. I would get it to the point it would be perfect, hot, cold, cold start, and even heat soaked. Then the next day, it had a mind of its own again. You told us that it idled fine (at least the info that was given to me) with the tune that was in the car when you brought it back. (I labled it "idles" on your desktop on your computer). On thursday when I found you were heading to the shop, and I was still not content with the way it idled, I went off the info I had (that it idles with the tune that was in the car), and transfered ALL the idle based values from that tune to our tune. Keeping the WOT corrections proper as they were set up on the dyno, but utilizing the parameters that I was told had the car idling fine..
Your saying now that the idle hangs at 1500-2000rpm at times? It never did this at the shop, and these are the same idle (throttle cracker, fallower ect.) values that were in the tune that I was told idled fine. Its these inconsistancies, as well as the inconsistancies with the corrections I was making to the idle to make it function perfectly one day, and not at all the next that leads me to believe that there is some other issue causing these inconsistancies...
I had originaly gone as far as locking the ignition timing in at low RPM (so it remains unchanged) and blocked off the IAC, so that the vehicle was running solely on the airflow past the throttle body. Even with this "mechanical" way of controlling idle, the vehicle was still inconsistant. It would idle perfectly at times, and die at other times (ECT, and loop being constant). This also points to some other source causing some of the idle issues you are having...
That being said, I know that I am not the most versed in tuning LS1s. I can nail down WOT and part throttle tuning just fine, but my expertise lies in Ford tuning. So with that, if anyone has any pointers to throw my way that they feel I could use to help correct Camarokids issues, please let me know. I am more than humble enough to realize that you can never know everything there is to know about these vehicels.
GINO, that means you too!!!!

LOL LOL LOL LOL thats unreal.
First off i have to say your a hell of a guy. i appreciate all your saying and doing to help me. this is where the break down im comunication comes into play.
you say you were not happy with the idle yet, and yet i was told it would be done and ready to pickup at the end of the day. i was in no hurry to get the car i dropped it off monday and had not heard anything by wednesday by 4 so i called just to see how it was going. i got ahold of bart he said things are coming along and that it should be dont tomorrow. so i called thursday they said it would be done so i stopped by.
i drove it and it seemed ok but i did only drive it like .5 mile down the road. i did notive that with the clutch in it would hang for a sec at about 12-1300. but what ever. so i drove it home and then it started hangin for no reason from 1500-2000. i dont know anymore. i dont wanna be a pain in the *** customer ya know.
i was an auto tech for 5yrs back in IA before i moved here 2mo ago. and i know what pain in the *** customer can be. but i also now see that communication between the worker and customer need to improve.
and the other end i NEVER SAID to anyone up fron my tune idled great or even good i only said my tune didnt die. i know my tune needed help also. i told them i had to load my tune cause at least it wouldnt die....... more communication breakdown
We usualy head out to Rock Falls in WI in groupes. We will also head down to the Ceder Falls Iowa from time to time. Some people like to complain about traction at Rock Falls, but that secret is to avoid going there on "Fun Days" were track prep is limited. Race days and test and tunes work out well.
