why would you want to change the pistons and crank if you are staying NA?

Yea thats about it, but why not wear out the shortblock first??? He can get over 600 rwhp out of his fresh 427 shortblock with one of LG's more aggresive cams.

Some people don't like to wait until things break before replacing them

If one can afford to replace it now; do it

hmm.. i would have just done the bigger cam, except LG said they have to do piston/crank swap when going with the big daddy. so when they come out with their next gen cam (in the works now), i'll do a cam/piston/crank swap. i don't know the mechanics involved, i just do what i'm told and pay for it.
maybe someone could chime in as to why?
edit: just saw the above post, will stock pistons/crank break when you get upwards of 600+ rwhp?

Most likely piston-to-valve clearance issues.

The camshaft would be of a size on that package such that you would need valve reliefs in the pistons.

I'd rather replace the pistons then fly-cut them myself

I am pretty sure lg has a few z06's out there with over 600 rwhp and the factory shortblock. Anybody want to chime in with one?

Jeenis is saying it's a "next gen" camshaft . . . maybe it won't clear a factory spec block

I too would like to know why they suggested you change out internals

Jeenis, if you plan to stay N/A and your ZO6 will only see street/strip duty but DON'T plan on tracking the car laps and laps then your factory block should be sufficient for 600 rwhp.

I'm confused here. The thread title is cam/headers but yet the sig says H/C. So which is it? Heads/cam or HEADERS/cam?

its supposed to say heads/cam. but if you look my sig, you can see that i have headers too, so it shouldn't be too confusing...

It's not confusing, its just misleading

What all was done to the heads? Little exhaust port work?

Are you running cats? If the search was working I would be able to find LG's post from when they broke 600 rwhp with a stock shortblock H/C 06z06. I am surprised you would need to replace the pistons for more P/V clearance because the ls7 heads have the steeper valve angle to provide more clearance?

wish i could tell you, i don't know squat about engines. i do know they had to send them off to get "machined"? it's got "titanium valves" also.. i'm sure some mechanically-oriented people would be better fit to answer all that.

yes, i am running cats. i think you don't necessarily NEED to upgrade pistions/crank, i just think it's safer on the engine if you wanna throw a big donkey dick cam in there. i still have to get used to the power it's making now before i go adding another 60rwhp or so
