Default 427 L92 results...

Hi everyone,

A couple of months ago I asked a shop to build me a good engine for my camaro for street/strip use.

We decided to use an L92 block and make it a 427ci engine. We went with L92 stage 3 heads and a custom cam.

The compression ratio came out to be 11:1. They just called me and told me that they had finished dynoing the engine (on an engine dyno, not a chassis dyno).

The results were 600 HP and 490 Ft-lb at the flywheel.

What do you guys think of these results?

The cam was designed to be a moderate cam as the car will be primarily used in the street.

Thanks for your input.

Hmm, I'm not an expert but I think legit opinions will be based on how the motor behaves in your car. That looks to be around 500rwhp and just over 400rwt, in an M6 car. Torque looks a bit low, but it's hard to say without knowing rough cam specs. Ultimately, if it idles nice and the torque curve is flat and the MPGs are decent for that CID, I'd say you did OK. My gut tells me there should be more in it though, perhaps share a dyno graph, A/F, cam specs, mod list? Then the really knowledgeable guys could be more help.

We had a 370ci make 504rwhp 480tq with a Normal sized cam and ported heads, I'm going to have to say that the valve events are way wrong for the heads.

that's odd... your's hp&tq diff. is over a 100. shouldn't be more than 50 properly tuned and put together right.

yeah, i'm hoping that 490 is a typo or something is just not right. a decent 427 cube motor should be able to put 490 + rwtq to the ground in an m6 so on an engine dyno that should be well over 550.

my numbers are only 20 / 20 shy of yours and i'm using 243's and a much smaller (unmatched) cam..... i was thinking of going ls7, but for 20 horse, the money definitly isnt worth it. I could probably make those numbers with a different cam, ported fast and a pully... no offence of course those are still awesome numbers for any street car.

I thought gen 4 combo on a cubed motor did upwards of 600rw?

Only pulls to 6k due to the L76 intake. It falls off hard after that. With a better aftermarket intake should be able to pull to 7k and get a little more out of it. Waiting on FAST or an affordable sheetmetal.

Why dont you go with a ported ls7 for the time being and spin it to 7? You should be doing well over the 600 mark which should hold you over untill you get a sheet metal or something else...

Kinda weird I have the 427 as well with L92 heads unported only added 918 springs, and L76 intake and my power curve doesnt drop off till 6600 rpms it pulled to 7k but after 6600 just felt like crap. Peak was at 5800 but didnt plummet it acually just leveled out only started to dive around 6600. things that make ya go hum. But irregardless I think a nice set of LS7 ETPs and an LS7 intake are in my future anyway just for the hell of it.
