For the past 10 years I have been in the LS1 scene cam only has always suggested that the camshaft was the only internal mod. Almost anyone knows if you have a camshaft you have the supporting bolt ons to go along with it.

Some people have different definitions, but that is what I get from it.....

A cam-only setup with stock headers and exhaust, with no supporting mods, would be "half-assed"

cam only is the term used for the only thing modified inside that touches oil, supporting mods aren't really mods that have added power as they only free up the hp we were denied by the concept of emissions and other political nitpicking that limited the power of the engine.

It is just different stages of ones "build".

1. Factory Stock
2. Free-Mods
3. Bolt-on (Stock internals, only external mods)*
4. Cam Only (no heads, nor built bottom end)*
5. Heads/Cam (stock short block)*
6. built (anything goes)

This only pertains to engine mods, not suspension nor any other part of the vehicle (like trans and diff.).

*These stages are the reason for the lists ("records") posted in the Drag Racing section.

Ive been wondering the same thing, seems like the dyno comparo section is always overrun w/ cam only threads. I geuss its because going cam only is so popular w/ these motors.

Thank god you were only kidding...ive seen many thread on other boards questioning our "cam only" mod lists and things like that. Cam only 1/4 mile classes are generally the most competative...heads/cam cars are basically how deep is your wallet!

I don't think he was joking.... he was probably serious at first til people started replying... then he realized that he was dumb.

I had a cam only but with shaved heads, stock gasket untouched just milled. See to me that is cam only, all other parts are stock.

Most people belive cam only to be un-modified OEM cylinder heads, excluding valvesprings. So if they were milled down they are no longer unmodified. You could probably get away with telling your local streetracing croud that its a factory head, but as for putting your name on the cam only lists id have to say no...lol Some people dont care about getting their name on a list so by all means make your car faster any way you can!

Cam-only is just for bragging rights. Some people may claim to be but they really are not, you have to trust them if they claim to be. As long as you put the power down and can back it up at the track, that's all that really matters. Honestly, I would love to put down 465+rwhp cam-only like some people I know

465hp cam only....I'd like to see that in the real world. On the mustang dyno I use it would not happen.

Ok, so - if my motor has been rebuilt, will all new internals but everything is stock size except the cam does that count as cam only?
and does a tranny swap make a difference?

A local guy is sayin he's got the fastest cam only car in the state and i believe mines faster but dont know if i'm 'cam' ony

you have 2,415 posts and you havent figured out that you need most bolt-ons to run a cam? And u obviously havent been in the dyno section much. Cam only means just a cam, but with all the other **** thats needed to go along with it. Headers, exhaust, intake, etc.

Cam only to me means no heads. Milled stock heads don't count. As long as there is no porting done it's cam only.
