I don't drive it hard at all, as a matter of fact, i've never spun the tires on it. Basically, I want it for when i'm at a light with a vette or a cobra. That's about it. My older brother has a '68 and a '69 Chevelle SS I need to dust as well. Maybe I should go with a smaller cam?

yes, i would be looking in the 220's if i were you. I forgot if u said it is an A4 or an M6, cause that makes a drastic difference as well. I am speaking from an M6 perspective.
Can i please give you the best advice you can get?
Search on here for a reputable speed shop in your area, and have them set you up to meet your goals exactly. If u were here by me, i would say PMFL, Vengeance, MASport, EDC, etc.

Since i dont know where you are, and this man knows his stuff, call Ed Curtis. You will have exactly the perfromance, manners, etc you want if you listen to his recomendations. he is a sponsor here, Flow Tech Inductions or FTI. he goes by EDC

good luck and keep in touch.

I believe Tony Mamo himself made very good power with a 224/228 cam like Martin is currently running. I hope he keeps it.

you shouldnt have been surprised to only pick up 10hp over an LS6 intake. Maybe going from a LS1 to a FAST you could expect 20 with your mods. Look for some heads in the classifieds, I picked up some AFR 205's for 1300 on this site.

I imagine the cost of a cam like yours would be around $400? I wonder what the install would cost me?

Buy the head you perceive as the best!
This is not an area to skimp on.
I would not consider any head other than a TFS or AFR. The power output will be directly proportional to the tune and other components wrapped around airflow.

I did a lot of research and the majority prefer AFR and there's a strong argument for them being the most desired. After I installed the 92 combo, I had it tuned by a local shop and I still have issues with the tune that never straightened out but ran 370 tq and almost 400 rwhp. So i'm thinking Speed inc. will squeeze more than normal out of mine with just the tune alone. So i'm working myself up to expect better than average numbers.

I believe the AFR's are slightly more expensive than the TFS. By a couple hundred bucks.

they are the same cost. The TFS heads that are a few hundred cheaper that you are thinking of are the "as cast" versions that dont have the by-hand port work. They are still great heads. With TFS heads, you really should get after-market Rockers, so that adds about $300.
Just a thought.

228/232 600-601 on xer lobes seems like a good high 220s low 230s cam. Im going to DD it here in a few weeks.

If I were you though I would just leave the cam you have in and worry about it if you aren't happy when done with the build.

I've decided i'm going to just leave my cam in, I made the decision, in large part, based on what Tony Mamo did with this same cam.

I had the rear welds cut from my roll cage and in the process of removing it, I got thirsty so I've been wetting my whistle for a few hours. Just didn't make it out tonight.

Alright guys, I dropped my SS off yesterday to larry at Speed inc. I decided that since this is a TOY, not a DD, I'm having an SI6 cam installed while they've got the car and they're dealing with the heads anyway. They cut me a hell of a deal as well. Larry gave me the breakdown of the differences between the SI5 and SI6 cams. What kind of car will I get back guys, SI6 cam, AFR 205's, and 42# injectors. Anybody got any guesses on what kind of numbers i'll see?
