Default The little 383 that could

Finally re-dynoed my 383 after the intake, rocker, port match upgrade. Last dyno was almost 2 years ago which produced 482/447 and now it's at 501/452 both SAE. Factory water pump, 3.90's, heavy motorsports wheels/tires and 92 octane might hold it back some. I did average 26.7MPG on the entire 500 mile round trip INCLUDING the dyno time

It felt good to just squeak by the 500whp mark and I'll have to give some of that credit to Jim from Speed Inc. I was hoping for a little more, but 500 was the origional goal so I'm happy I'm sure a set of TFS's or AFR's would give me 10-15rwhp/tq over the old 243's, but it's not worth the effort to find out. I'm just going ot enjoy this car as it and either go FI or larger cubes down the road.

-Home built shortbolck with Eagle crank, Compstar rods, Mahle pistons and ARP's 11.8 SCR and 8.41 DCR

-Pete Incaudo 243's with big valves (~3-4 year old set) Crane 832's and YT ultralights set up by me.

-Comp XER 238 242 .605 .610 114

-home ported Fast and ls2 tb

-LG pros no cats and Borla stinger quad tip

-Haltek intake

-RPM level 5 M6, 3.90's and a Spec 3+ w/billit steel flywheel

Impressive bro. I just would've expected a bit more torque. Not talking **** at all bro, I'd be happy as hell driving that 3.90 geared zo6 around. You probably will beat a lot of very quick cars with your setup.

It's only got about 5000-6000 miles on the motor. My neighbors would hate me if it was my daily I haven't driven it much lately dut to a vibration issue from last year that I just corrected and everything is smooth running now.

I think the heads hold back some of the torque numbers and also the cam is 114 stright up. I set the cam up that way due to the high SCR and desire to not run a giant cam. The DCR is now 8.41 for the 92 octane I can get around here, but I think I could have gone a touch higher.

I'd love to drive your car with that 383 in it. How's she pull in 5th and 6th ?? I am sure 1-4 are insane, just curious about how the 3.90's make 5/6 feel.

It's ok, but my 295/40/18's eat up some of that gearing. Here is a crappy scan of the dyno sheet

Last year it went 11.6@122 with a 1.7 60' on nitto dr's, with the old stuff. Shifting was very poor as the clutch was releasing to close to the floor to get fast shifts. My track isn't exactly considered a "fast" one either, but thats enough excuses

Nice numbers. Where did you find 295/40/18 tires? I am looking to get some for my Z06 soon.

They are Falken Azenis rt615's (one of the better dry street tires for the money IMHO) The 295/40/18's better match the front 275/40/17's in terms of sidewall height. I'd rather have the 315/30/18's, but I think they look to thin compared to the 275/40/17's. Best place to buy Falken stuff is Discounttiredirect.com all prices are shipped.

Thanks, I plan on getting some once I run my Wide Ovals down. I am trying to pull a little gear out of the car for interstate cruising and fuel economy.

Exactly why I did it and to match the look of the front better.

Thats true. I'm just happy these heads are doing so well even though they aren't one of the bigger name parts.

Not many people know him, but Pete Incaudo is the man when it comes to stock ported heads.

I don't doubt you. I spoke to Him when building my 383 at first to find some things out about the heads since they were on the car when I got it. They are dated, but still doing a fine job for me
