I have a 72 nova that is all steel except hood and trunk lid and full interior. it has a ladder bar setup in the back and stock suspension up front. I am redoing the body on the car and I put the new motor I had built for it in the car with the trans to see how the car would sit. When I did this I weighed the car and it came in at 2810 with me in the car, no fuel, and no nitrous bottle. The motor is an AFR headed 406 that dynoed 568 hp at 6800 and 494 ft lbs at 4600. The car has 4.56 gears with a 29.5/10.5w tire on it and 3 spd t350 trans with a 4000 converter. My question is will this car run in the 10's on the motor and where in the 10's do you think it would run? I also plan on putting a 300 shot 2 stage setup on here too so give me a good guess on what it would do on the bottle too.

No....I dont' think it will.
Also......that's a bad tranny/rear gear combo if you wanna make it through. 3 speed Turbo 350 and 4.56s......I wouldnt' even consider it.
My bros 72 camaro has 3.73s with that tranny and he is wHINING out that third gear at the end.

Yeah the car is stripped somewhat. The backseat is gone and i had factory seats in the front but I took them out and put in plastic racing seats. The old motor had iron heads and I have alum. heads on this one. I have wilwood brakes on the front and ditched the front drums. I had a cast iron water pump on the front that weighed 24 lbs and I ditched it for a 6 lbs elec. alum. pump. I changed out the front runner tires from pep boys tires to hoosier front runners and that was a 10lb weight saving. I have fiberglas bumpers too. These cars only weighed roughly between 3000-3100 from the factory being a unibody with no full frame. The old motor would run thru the traps at 7400 but that was a motor that needed to rev to make some good power and that was with a 28" tall tire so the new tire at 29.5" will take away some of the gear but I don't think it will take away enough so I will probably be going to a 4.10 gear.

This is me and my dad's drag car. It weighs about 2800 with driver. has a 500ci bbc, turbo 400 trans, 9inch with 4.56 gears. we run eighth mile at 6 flat and coast through the quarter at 10flat. i would think with what your running you should definately run in the 10's.

My 68 Firebrid is 2820 dry without me, no back seats, and still all steel. If i didnt have all of the suspension upgrades and crossbracing it would probably be close to that with me in it. I dont think its a rediculous number. Not all the safety equipment like the newer cars.

456 gears with a 29.5 tire will be fine. I had 430 gear and a 6500rpm engine that made 500hp/500tq and it went 10.89 @ 3200lbs with a 28/12.5 ET Street.
456's will be too much for nitrous, BY FAR. You'll never make past the 1/8 mile on a 300shot with that engine. On nitrous, I would change to 410's or 373's.
I think at 2810 with 568hp, it will run 10.40@130, might even go faster.. you do have a ladder bar and a big tire, so hooking should not bve an issue

no beating your head against the wall.. lol
save that for something worth hurting yourself like redlighting in the final round against a car that is 2 seconds slower than your own.
I still have the knot on my forehead from that dipshit move.
