Default Block work needed, please advise

I called the machine shop I always use and spoke to them about doing some work and they gave me a crazy price...... like no effing way price.

Anyhow I bought a complete LQ9 Motor that has low miles pulled from a wreck... 3 years ago and sat outside under a tarp. From sitting in the elements its nasty (rusty on the exterior). Now I could just clean the hell out of it, wire brush it down and paint it. But I think it would look much better being cleaned and hot tanked the right way.

So I'm thinking if I am pulling the bottom end for cleaning I am going to just go with forged rods, forged piston, The motor does not need to be bored out because it is just fine with low miles.

So I want to drop the motor off just block, caps, bolt and covers. Have it cleaned, and reassembled (including cam, timing chain, and covers). I will supply the pistons, rods, rings, cleaned covers with new pain seals, new crank pulley, I rather have them order the bearings.

So that being said, how much should this run me? SEC told me 2 grand and I was like hmm I think I'll just clean and paint it then. I don't have 2 grand if I did I would have just ordered a new short block LS2

Not going to be cheap to have all of the short block assembled especially if you are changing bottom end parts. Balancing alone normally runs about $200 and thats before they add any heavy metal.

Not sure what your plans are with it, but cheapest route would be to just tear it apart, inspect it, and reassemble it. That way you get by without balancing and you can still put new bearings in if you need it and see what it looks like on the inside (make sure no issues from sitting).

Inspection will reveal what all needs to be done. If the block ends up being not what you need give me a shout as I am looking for a standard 6.0 for a build.
I just "forged" a similar scenario as you are talking and it is cheaper just to buy one already done...the machine shop work is the difference! Good luck with the build...

Well I did some shopping around and got some info. And as it stand I think I am lust gonna clean the hell out of it, and paint it. It's clean as can be inside for only having 31K and rotates nice and freely. So on my budget it doesn't make sense to do it yet. I have another bare 6.0 that I will save for when I can go 408.

Fran this LQ is a 2004 do you know if that uses the LS1 or the LS2 head bolts?
