You should have those details regarding "Any Lawfull Purpose" already que'd up with the LT so there are no surprises. They give the chief the ability to limit your license because by law they cannot deny a license if your records come back clean.

The sad part is he could say ok, you can carry the weapon, but only between the hours of 12pm and 1 am. it's pretty messed up but I've seen it happen.

Do your best to have you license not limit your abilities. In my book a class A license that does not allow you to carry/conceal is basically as good as an FID card for pistols.

Think about your statement as to justifying your need for the license. I think it's BS how some of these cops are on power trips and try and limit your right/privelages if you are so deserving. I had to explain why when I applied, although now I keep hearing more and more stories in MA about people not getting a non restricted license.

GOAL has a lot of good info about handgun ownership/laws in MA
http://www.goal.org/Licensing.htm

I would do your best to make a case for yourself.

yes but you want to say you want to be legal in any situation concerning your firearm, transporting storing etc etc. I was always taught that when you start saying you want to carry for protection that it can lead to more questions.

Joe,I hope you know you need a special liscense to carry a gun into 100 Federal street since it's considered a bank. They would fire you on the spot for walking in with one.

Truthfully,I like having the liscense but thinks it's pretty stupid to carry a gun with you all the time. That just promotes problems.

keep in mind that you can only purchase magazines with over 10rnd capacity if they are pre-ban manufactured.

anything that says 'for law enforcement/military only' is out, as that is a 'ban' mag. most stuff recent that is 'post-ban' will be date coded, which you also cant have.

pre-ban mags for stuff that is military is easy to come by at gun shows... but anything new-ish like a springfield XD... i'm pretty sure that gun was created during the AWB era, so you arent going to find legal mags for it.

I have a Walther P99, which was first imported into the US during the AWB... the only 'pre-ban' mags you can get for it were the german manufactured ones that were never mass imported into the US.

of course... the odds of a police officer stopping you to check your magazine capacity is like zero, since there is no obligation to inform an officer that you are carrying a concealed weapon in MA... but if something happens like you get pulled over and they search you and find it, you are fucked. or god forbid you have to use your handgun in a self-defense scenario, they will lock you up for using an illegal 'assault weapon' to defend yourself.

so it all depends if you want to be 100% legal, or have the 'i'd rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6' attitude about it.

WOW...glad i don't live in MA. I live in NH. and just got my pistol permit in 3 days. Filled out an app. with 3 referrences (not related) $10.00 at the local police department! I bought a Springfield XD45 and love it! The nicest think was buying the gun, walked in to Daves sporting goods in Plaistow...saw the gun i wanted...filled out a form (5 min.) gave him my license..dave made a call...gave him the cash and walked out in less then 20 min. The ammunition is getting harder to find then guns right now... i understand the Obama administration is cracking down on the shipping procedures of ammunition? I also think people are getting paranoid that gun sales will be illegal soon, so people are buying like crazy...and stocking up on ammo??

Yeah good point. You cannot carry on any Federal property, banks, post office, etc...

Don I agree that it may not be necessary to carry a gun all the time, but for those who do any one of us might be gratefull one day. Pros and Cons I know...

Don, I just meant that as an excuse as to why I should have the right to carry.

First off I cannot carry no matter what because my company will not allow it. Secondly, I would never carry around town. Like you said that is asking for trouble and from 8-5 mon-fri I have a very professional job and even if I could legally carry it is not allowed and extremely frowned upon. It is just unprofessional in my line of work. I wanted to be able to carry on the weekends/nights that I felt there may be a need (maybe a day or two out of every year). I would barely ever carry but just nowing I am not allowed.....it's the principal. I just want to be able to if I want to.

If it's so hard/expensive to buy ammo why not pack your own. From what I understand the equipment and supplies are cheap enough. Unless I am wrong/not allowed to I planned to make my own ammo unless the cost of buying it is cheap enough.

Slayer, your chances of getting tried by 12 are slim. You'll more than likely get stopped for something stupid, the cop will notice you have the right to carry, maybe inspect th weapon then your so screwed.

i don't have a fire extinguisher with me at certain times because a fire is more likely. Regardless of what job i have, i would be carrying all the time. But that just me.

do what you need to do to get the carry permit, its your right, now i will be honest once you get it you will carry it for a bit but it will get old, so many places you are not allowed to carry, govt buildings, bars, etc..it becomes a hassle.

and honestly most places you might need/want to carry you cant, like going out to bars

im not sure if they've changed the MA law in the last 3 years since i've moved, but previously, there was no law against carrying in a bar... only against carrying while drinking.

here in TX, you cannot carry in a business that derives 51% or more of their profits from alcohol sales (yes, they must have a sign posted). some places that you think are bars, are technically restaurants because their food sales are high.

http://www.fsguns.com/

they've got a good sampling of what IS legal, and they've got a lot of info on there about laws. pretty good shop too.

Some towns are worst than others. In bridgewater, i just needed my license, course cert, 100 dollars, my application and my reason for wanting one.

Edit: Don, you shouldn't have an issue getting one in Bridgewater. Even if you don't live in bridgewater you can get one through them because your business is in bridgewater.

What I want to do is get two templates of recommendation that I can give to my boss and a fellow co-worker, have them read over it and sign. Most people I know dont want to spend the time typing up a little something about why I should have a gun, if I just give them something to sign it will make it easier.

I also want another template of how I should justify my reasoning why I want a gun. This one I can pretty much do on my own, I know how to properly word it but I just dont want to say the wrong thing.

I dont even know what should be in these letters and how specific they need to be, the police LT left that part really vague.

CT was easy back when I did it. I have no Idea what it's like now.

Dan, I have a Sig 229 in .357 sig. Love the gun, but the ammo is expensive & I don't have the dies to reload them. I mostly Carry My HK P7M8 or Sig 228 I 9mm.

Holy cow!! Am I glad I live in Texas! I love New England (except driving there!) it's by far one of the most beautiful and historic places we have, but man do the gun laws suck!!

References?! They let me buy a handgun without needing to know the names of any of my low class friends, whew!

::Relevant Sig::=Model 30 Glock, .45 cal. Makes a nice big hole, and with Federal Hydroshocks, doesn't exit the object it entered...

.

At this point in the game unless you have been reloading for a while already, it's a crap shoot.
Ammo is getting harder and harder to find. People are hoarding everything from ammo they need to ammo they have no use for (later for trading purposes), brass, bullets and powder. My brother and I were going to buy all the good stuff to start reloading ourselves but the cost to buy the equipment will take a long time to save in reloads.
But as I was starting to say, ammunition is getting hard to find period... the same is happening with reloading supplies.

Joe- if you feel like making the ride, I should be going to the range this weekend. I have a couple Glocks, S&W handguns, if my brother is around he has a few H&K handguns himself. We could plan a half day at the range or whatever to get you accustomed to it....

Also, I have a copy on my home computer of a reference letter I wrote for a local friend, I can email it or PM it to you when I get home!
