I see basically two uses for it.
1. the gift of gab. you can post what ever you want whenever and if people read it fine if not then fine too. For example people post things like "surfing the net instead of working" or "just had a soda and i let out the biggest belch" or "don't call me, I am at the movies" Stuff could be useful but for the most part.....well
2. Companies and organization use it for real time update. Like NHRA is on there and they put up updates as the weekend progresses. You can read it or have twitter hooked to your phone and you get a text message when they post an update. I recently opened one for the Corvette Challenge, www.twitter.com/CorvetteChallen I use it to give updates to drivers driving to the track when the weathe is iffy. If the track calls it off, I post one tweet and all the followers (23 now) get a message and don't have to call the track and can turn around. I also used it for real time updates while a race is going on. Island dragway uses it for updates too. Imagine how great it would be to get a remineder tha race you wanted to attend is this weekend? Pretty cool.

Twitter seems like a stripped down version of facebook, which seems like a stripped down version of myspace. I'm on myspace and recently signed up for facebook because there is a higher maturity level than myspace, but I still haven't figured it out yet.
