Default Driveshaft Safety Loop Needed with Et Streets?

Trying to cover all my bases. Do I need a driveshaft loop if I'm running et streets at NED? I'm hoping for anything in the 11s but I'm more likely going to be in the low 12s.

I dont know if the track will consider the ET street a Slick. They see my car with the missing paint and rust and they like going over it with a fine tooth comb.

I am pretty sure that since it's a DOT tire that a DS safety loop is not needed, but I do remember when I was using ET Streets the tech guys would ask if I had a loop, I installed one shortly after the second time of being asked.

Now that I run ET Drags, sometimes the Tech guys will start looking underneath the car for it....

trust me you will want one, i broke a driveshaft and it only did minimal damage because the loop save the car, without it much damage would have occured to the car

You won't need one but if you drop a shaft especially in the front and catapult yourself you will be sorry for a 20 dollar piece of metal.

Its definitely worth it to have one whether its a safety requirement or not...I had a driveshaft break on the dyno and even though the front was looped the rear portion beat the crap outta my floor and flew across the shop...I now have a Spohn TA with TWO loops...At least do one in the front...Don't take any chances...Remember there is also the guy in the next lane over who wants to go home safe too...

Alright guys I was planning on putting one in next week or the week after regardless. But if I cant do it next week. I still want to run at the track next weekend and try out the new et streets. I dont think I'll be break the driveshaft as I'm still learning the car and learning how to launch. My best 60' has only been 2.0. without the et streets so if I can get 1.8s I'll be happy. So I'm not really pushing crazy 60's yet. Honestly I dont have the ***** yet to launch at 5 grand.

Thanks guys. I am gonna drive into tech with street tires on just to keep the questions down and not put miles on the et streets and then swap them on.

Exactly, No one ever goes to the track EXPECTING to break! I run one and luckily it's never had to do its job.

Yah, Yah I know, no one plans it, but I am not planning on going ***** to the wall the next time out I'm still getting my feet wet. Obviously the driveshaft could still break but I bet its more likely to break when I am really pushing the car hard. The guy who did my driveshaft said that most likely if I'm going to break a u joint it will be the rear one, so I might actually go with 2 like the other guy said.

I might want to look into a steel driveshaft too. I have a 3" aluminum from a c4 vette on there right now. With a 1310 ujoint on the front and a combo 1310/7260 ujoint on the back. He thinks that combo joint will go first. So if thats the case it wont matter how thick the shaft is or what material its made of.

Last season I went to my local track with ET street radials and the tech guy told me i need a driveshaft loop. I told him i was only running upper 12's. He said it doesn't matter if its a 15 second car, sticky compound tires means you need a driveshaft loop. I have one now with my MWC torque arm.

Yea i thought the same thing so i looked it up afterwards. Its 13.99 on slicks or 13.00 on street tires. I dunno where he got 15's from.

I did not "break" my driveshaft, but I twisted the end loops where the U-joint....well....used to press in. I need a loop also I took mine out when I removed my HORRIBLE spohn arm.

Josh.. Considering you did the LS1 Swap into your car, you can Easily handle fabbing up a DS Safety loop. I bought mine from BMR for the GTO... I Could have easily made it though.... All you'll need is a welder and some steel!
