Im guessing you are talking about high oltage transmission lines?

Only three pieces of advice...
1. dont tough two wires at the same time
2. dont tought a wire and and the ground at the same time
3. dont pee on the wire [just in case]

good luck bud!

I do 14.8kv at my job. Don't recommend it to anyone. One little mistake and 1/2 your body is instantly burnt off. I like the union electrician at a permanent site type of work.

I have seen some good scraps on my jobs because of electricians powering up the school and a circuit is marked wrong. Usual ends up with someone yelling in a hallway followed by a guy running down the halway running into the switch gear room and taking a swing at someone... When the schools get down to crunch time just before school opens and the union just throws 30 electricians at a job to try and get done it usually gets ugly...

Like NFL, as in defensive/offensive lineman?
Uhh I know you're pretty tough and all dude but I don't think you have the size for that job.

I am telephone lineman....it's a great job, AC is the summer, heat in the winter, lots of OT and a good hourly rate.

It's a dying job though, if you havent already been in it I wouldnt....all of the newer guys in this line of work get the sh*t end of the stick.

did the high voltage lines, 4.8kv, 7.6kv, 13.2kv, 33kv. my only pointers are:
cant be afraid of heights, prepare to work...alot, prepare to make very good money, dont take electricity for granted/ respect it!, be completely aware of your surroundings, never rush your work no matter how hard the ******* boss is pushing you, like said before... dont go phase to phase/phase to ground ( makes a nice blue ball of fire ). Any specific questions, just ask. good luck and be careful

I've actually been looking into lineman careers also. I'm an automotive tech and I enjoy it, but the money sucks considering how much time and effort goes in. I've heard most lineman jobs pay good but it's always hard to find good info on what to expect. I'd hate to spend a bunch of time and money to end up in a job that I wouldn't like.

Have you ever thought about trying to get into a trade union? I'm in the plumber and pipefitters union and its not that bad of a gig. They school you and money is pretty damn good.

I've got 2 uncles that are union electricians and theres not much work out ther right now, well unless you want to go to afghanistan wher 1 of my uncles is right now. there probably is more work out ther for linemen right now and down the road.
