Ready for more snow??
I should have taken some pics of the stuff I drove in yesterday it was pretty fun even with almost spent all-seasons, locker in the back makes a huge difference. Can't wait to put a real tire on it eventually.
Bad

Good

As for where I live the home has Nat. Gas so loosing Electricity is not an issue. But for homes with Elec heat I would think your tax refund should go for a Elec generator. You never know..... or just get a **** load of blankets.

I have an oil burning furnace but it still needs juice, Plus I'll be picking up a pellet stove come this spring for next year. Damn house projects killing the car fun.
But yeah Snow sucks, I saw a few threads of folks down in GA trying to drive in the stuff, its down right hilarious.
Illegal I know, but as long as i throw the main breaker, none of the linemen will get a zap. I can live with that.
I have to say though, my power rarely goes out. I'm pretty close to a hospitol, so that's one reason why I think.
Next house, will get put on an acre and a half, 1800 sq ft or so, 2 car attached, and I'll put up a 30x50 steel garage in back (so I can park the trailer inside, and work on the car next to it) and put a diesel generator in a generator house right off the side of it to do the same thing, should I ever have to. That, and line the entire roof of the garage, and house with solar panels, so I can pump power back into the grid and power some of my own stuff during the daytime. And, if I can float it, I'll put geo-thermo heating in the garage and house as well.
Depends, on the total $ tag on the whole deal, as none of that is cheap.... chances are I'll bite the bullet and get it all done so I am not regretting it later, but it's gonna be a painful price tag for a smallish house.
I should mention that right now to go solar for my house it would probably cost me a good 25 g's for everything. This cost will go down a lot in the future as technology makes for better/cheaper panels. Panels are only 20% efficient in converting energy today and I'd need just under 500sq feet of panel based on the average amount of sunlight i get on one side of the house. Then you need inverters/batteries, etc...But all said and done that setup would let me sell back to the grid based on my cosumption, The setup would pay for iteself at that price but like in 12+yrs.
it would just be nice to go look at the meter on a sunny day and watch the thing spin backwards.

I put a 30x50 or a 40x60 garage, I'll cover the whole damn roof with the panels, and put them on the house. I will for sure, be putting power back in the grid, on a regular basis with that much sq. footage of panel.

That would be great; cheap, efficient solar panels plus electric cars. You could literally create your own "fuel" for your car, but still have a gas burner for weekend fun.
