Default Some fun with a Mini Cooper....

This happened last week....

I’m heading to the gym and I see this fruity ricer VW Golf fly by me with a Mini Cooper next to it. Both are flooring it, both equipped with fart pipes, both likely making a combined 250 horsepower. I would have gotten out and raced both on foot but I didn’t want to tire myself out before I got to the gym.

Anyways, the VW continues on and the Mini takes a sharp left to get onto the highway. Ah, I’m going the same way! I make the left and the bypass has a light and then about 1000 feet after the light it merges onto the highway.

The Mini gets caught at the light in the left hand lane. There is a merge after the light and the Mini has the right of away except there is now a BEASTLY white V6 Sonata on his right with yours truly driving it. Just as any serious racer would do I turn off the traction control, turn the air off, manually put the Sonata in 1st gear, and do my best to secure my pre-workout drink (NO Explode).

The light turns green and we are off. The Sonata does a little burnout, just enough to remove any doubt the Mini driver may have had regarding my intentions to let him merge. We stay even for a second or two and then the Sonata begins pulling away. By about 70 or so I was convincingly ahead. The Mini had no choice but to tuck in behind me as went into the merge lane. For some odd reason as we got onto the highway and I moved a lane over the Mini never came up to me. He was in such a rush before when he was speeding with the VW and then flooring it from the light yet now he had no interest in even reaching the 60 MPH speed limit and risking a side by side encounter with the Korean Beast.

Thumbs up

Nice kill dude, but how were your retinas and tendons able to withstand the massive 'Sonata induced' g-forces placed upon them without peeling back during that launch?

After a few days my eyes recovered from those 235 korean horses!

I can see the fun in owning small well-handling car like a Mini Cooper but I just can't understand how in 2011, people can think a car like that is 'fast.' We have V6 Ecoboost Ford F150s running 14.7s stock and V6 pony cars with 300+ horsepower. I have known a few people that drive the N/A Minis and everyone of them thinks its a street terror. Odd.

I agree. Even the supercharged and later turbocharged models weren't all that quick either for how light (and more costly) they are.

A girl at work had a mini cooper S and she let me drive it. Small cars like that tend to feel like they are going fast even when they aren't. It felt pretty quick, fun to drive.
