Default Water temp guage

I have a auto meter water temp guage that has a large manual probe and the port on the back of the right head is 1/4 pipe can I safely drill and tape this to 3/8 to make this guage work without damaging the head? Thanks

Before I drilled the head, I would go on the Auto Meter website and look for a different temperature probe. They are not that expensive (starts at $13).

They also have an install kit for LS engines, with the required fittings. The link below even comes with the short temp sensor ($35).

In the long run it is better to spend a few bucks right now to get the proper part. Once you drill, you're stuck with your new size hole.

Easy enough to put an adapter on as well... No need to drill it.
