Which head gaskets should I get? I'll get straight to the point. I have a 2001 5.3 ls1 vortec cast iron block that I'm taking the aluminum heads off of, to replace with 5.7 aluminum heads. Does anyone know if standard 5.7 headgaskets will work right off the bat, or do I need a specific gasket? Maybe I need to do work the cylinders before placing the new heads on? I've looked online and other forums but ha e only found info on 5.3 heads going onto 5.7 blocks.

You can run an LS1 head gasket on your LM7 that isn't a problem.
For head gaskets, we would recommend the Cometic .051" factory thickness CGT-C5475-051. Another option is the Cometic .040" CGT-C5475-051. Going with the .040" gaskets will bump compression about 0.3. That will also reduce the quench distance which will promote a better combustion cycle.
