Default Value of an LS1?

It's been a year since I bought the first LS1 for the two swaps I was planning to do. The 2nd project is being scrapped though - moving soon, and won't have a place to keep the car. So, I'm selling EVERYTHING to do with it.

The problem is, it seems prices for LS1s have gone way way way done in the last year. It is a COMPLETE drop-in engine (PCM, harness, all accessories, all stock components) with 81k miles, and I've upgraded to an LS6 intake with EGR adapter mod. I'm getting told it's worth far less now than what I paid for it BEFORE the intake upgrades.

The best offer I've had so far is $1500, the worst was one guy wanted me to throw in my 21k mile T56 with it for a TOTAL of $1900!

I'm about ready to throw an LS1 intake back on it and sell the LS6 intake separately. If I do, what is a REALISTIC price for this engine?

Also, anyone have an LS1 intake they want to sell cheap?

Thanks for the help,
Adam

Alot of people are looking for LS6 intakes.I ussually get $200-$250 for them used. The complete motor's aren't worth much though. They are only worth $800 to me since that is the core charge I pay.You can get probly $800 to $1000 for a good M6 though.

Sorry Mark, a quick search of the "for sale" forum and I found several intakes available for $10 to $40 shipped. Guess everything on LS1s are dropping in resale value these days.

How quickly do you need to get rid of the engine and transmission?

seriouly jsut the motor your lookin at about 1500 with 87k miles.. .if your lucky.... on ebay full motor/trans with 30 k miles is NOT selling for 2500 although i think thats pretty reasonable. so 2k with your tranny on there with 87k miles is about right

Man, you guys are looking at it the wrong way. Remember what made the 5.0 such a great engine/the fox to have??? CHEAP TO MOD. AND MAKE FAST, + LOTS and LOTS of aftermarket.

LS1's are on the RIGHT track if you ask me! As I said 5 years ago, LS1's are the 5.0 of the next generation.

Could maybe see $2k with a 4L60E, but not with a low mileage T56.

The LS1 itself that i have has 81k miles
The 4L60E has 18k miles
The T56 has 21k miles

While the engine has clearly got moderate miles on it, the transmissions are quite young!

Just sold the LS6 intake and will be getting an LS1 intake back - that will help me recoup PART of what I put into it, and let's me lower my price substantially.

Thanks for the help guys.

I am looking for an Ls1 engine for a 67 camaro project I am working on. My plan is to put in a 4L60E trans. But I want to build the engine up some from stock. A factory harness isn't very useful cause the vatts system needs to be bypassed. Basically I'm looking for a long block with accessories. Intake optional with a pcm for a 4L60E. Engine, trans combos on ebay are rediculous price especially if I'm gonna scrap half the parts. If you got one let me know.

You are going to need to re-tune the PCM anyways so it shouldnt matter what trans the LS1 you buy comes with unless you buy them in a package together obviously. You will also need the LS1 harness grafted to the harness in the camaro. They can leave the vats out on the harness and the PCM and you will be good to go. Check out LS1Truck.com for more info on this. They have to do it all the time.

I may be selling the other LS1 engine I have also. It is a 2001 mated to a 4L60E, with 18k miles on them. PM me if you would like to discuss buying the longblock. The only thing is, I would be keeping the accessories to put on the forged shortblock I am looking at buying.

Thanks,
Adam

Just to clarify, re-tuning does NOT compensate for the switch from transmission types (Slowhawk told me this). You have to get the PCM re-flashed first, THEN tuned for your application.

You also do NOT need to graft the original harness with the LS1 harness - this is one of a few options. You can also have an LS1 wiring harness re-worked withOUT the car's stock harness. You can also buy "Stand-alone" harnesses from John Spear (Speartech, a sponsor of this site), or from Painless.
It really depends upon the emissions you have to meet in your state and how much you want to spend, as to which harness solution is the best. No two swaps are the same.

VATS can be bypassed in tuning, or by reworking the harness, or kept intact with a small electronic "bypass module" (run a search on Ebay for Bakerelectronix), that sends the necessary signal for VATS to the PCM, but can be wired in so as to allow it to be unplugged and put in your pocket, in which case VATS will not allow the engine to start (the same as the original function except using the module instead of the key).

I knew you had to do something with the PCM for the tranny...
