joe, the reason for a 2 family is, i dont want to move out, i have all my stuff here, garage tools ect ect, thats why i was saving and saving, so when the right place came up, i could scoop it. i hate moving, so i have a savings acount i havent touched since i started working at 11 yrs old, so i figure it has well over 30k in it, and im selling my boat wich will be another 10k ontop of that, plus whatever i saved till i found a house, but i figure if i get a 2 fam, it will somewhat pay for itself, and in 5 years make a profit, and use that like you said, plus my savings and hope to get a nice place.
oh well.
the scarry part is, after tax's and my IRA, i only get 54% of my paycheck! That right there, sucks. lol
oh well. time to make the donuts. lol
Jay, i do side jobs, but most are for friends, so i work for beer. lol
and i am in the procces of owning a company, so side work isnt so good, i need it to keep my men going.oh well, im just a little nuts with the way uncle sam porks you.

Bah- you're still overpaid.

You're really gonna cry when they switch over to the Federal "Consumption" or "Use" tax- you pay on what you buy or use.. pay as you go.

I personally like the new ideas because everyone, included those with 2 sets of books and welfare scammers will HAVE to pay taxes. No way around it.

We need more Republicans in office, it's the damn liberals that love to suck up your money, and give it to everybody that likes to mooch off the system.

I'm less than $2k away from paying off my home and owning it outright entirely but I hope that by losing that small right off for the mortgage interest isn't going to mess me up when it comes to filing.
Buying a two family is a smart move IMO, I've considered doing that (or even a 4 or 6 family dwelling) as well.

My old man always tells me " paying taxes means you made money that year". Thats a good thing.

I'm in the same boat more or less as you Brad. My Wife and I combined make well into the 6 fixure mark combined. We both file married filing joint with 0 dependents. My Wife works as a Real Estate broker on her spare time so she had a few advertising write offs, but it wasn't much.

I was expecting back over $10,000, instead I owed on the state and got back less than $1000 in federal. I need to buy a house!

Brad, the reason your getting slammed is because of the bonus checks your recieving. If you get bonus checks often, you should put one or two of them aside to cover yourself for taxes.

Uncle Sam can go get my nuts!

fortunately that's capital gains.

No $#!%, and gas prices are supposed to surge another 25 cents in the next few days. We need an energy bill bad and the damned enviro wackos have it so we can't drill in Alaska. Right, when are we finally going to shift the tax burden off of people so they can "live". Craddle to the grave man. Craddle to the grave.

Until then-

I'm not "mooching" off anyone.. anymore than you're a mooch off Mommy and Daddy.

I've worked my whole life, through HS (and I can read, write and spell) through College (3.3 index while working full-time) and then another 15 years of Civil Service.. keeping the Booty-Bandits away from skinny lil' white boys like you in the jails & prisons. I'm still working (though not as hard) and will continue to do so.

You have a lot to see and learn.. about life and people in general.. and then maybe you can bleat out your petty grievances.

Until then-

I'm new to the whole real estate thing but would it really matter? From what I hear, you can write off the interest you pay which in the early years of your loan; it’s like 90% taxes and 10% principal but towards the end of your loan, your paying 90% principal and only 10% interest. It seems like if you don’t get to write your taxes off it wouldn’t affect you return anywhere close to the first 5-10 years.

Sounds like you need another mortgage, go shopping for a summer home!
