On a scale from 1-10..

The SVT Cobra is on the right track.
Why doesn't Ford make these an option (400hp NA)

GM's car line really isn't much to write home about on the whole. They do make some nice performance cars, but their basic family sedans and compact cars are lagging behind that Japanese. Hopefully the Cobalt is a start on the right foot. But stupid GM let the ancient cavalier just fester for so long, people have such low expectations of the Cobalt. The G6 is looking nice so far. But comparing the Malibu to the Accord/Camry, or the Grand Prix to the Maxima, its not even close.
I worry the domestics are going through a repeat of the 70s. Making all their profits on big heavy SUVs and trucks, that when another gas crunch hits and the market rushes to compacts again, they'll be dealt a possible death blow.

I wouldn't be knocking the new GM cars with the LS4 in them too much though, the only thing Ford has to compete with them is a Taurus and maybe the new 500, not quite a 303hp V8 pulling those two around though.

The 500s are really nice. They are huge inside, and really really nice. But Ford used the same Duratec....205 hp I think....car weighs 3900s I think. Do the Math....It would be about on par with the mighty KHR....
With a stronger motor, say an extra 45 horsepower, that would be a great car....

However- compare it to this if you want to talk "flagship" cars:
http://www.fordvehicles.com/fordgt/m...d=4&timer=true
Engine Type: DOHC, 4 valves per cylinder, supercharged V-8
Engine Displacement (L): 5.4
Bore/Stroke (mm): 90.2x105.8
Displacement (cu in/cc): 330/5409
Compression Ratio (in/mm): 8.4:1
Material: Aluminum block
Horsepower @ RPM: 550@6,500
Torque @ RPM (lb ft): 500@3,750
The car was sold for what it was worth.. and I don't question your decisions about what you do, so I don't think that comment was called for. I'm happy with the resolution, so don't be a dick.
Problem with the saleens is even the 2003-2004 were stickered in the 55k and up range for hardly anything worhty performance wise. Hopefully the new ones are a better bargain.
