Question PA Guys come in - emissions

Hey, any of you gents in PA know if I can get away with running no Cats? I am getting LT's and finding it to be a hell of a pain in the *** to rig up a system with Cats without spending as much on my Y as I am on the LT's themselves, which is ridiculous. Any advice is welcome.

TY

Even under 5k they are still *supposed* to check for emissions equipment. Just so long as it's there regardless of it's working condition. Now that they do the scan instead of the sniffer, the same rule applies I guess. The big question is how many techs actually check.

You could gut the cats, insert a pipe inside and weld them up. This way it flows like a ORP but looks like a cat.

Yeah man thats what I am thinkin at this point. These guys I know would definetely do it for me, but from what I've heard LT's sound better with Cats anyway, so I may as well try and be legal... I dunno.

Soundwise, you DEFINETLY want cats in there. Unless you don't go for the "tuned" sound.

The only viable solution, other than a friend in the inspection business who will "overlook" the ORY, is to set up a "modular" Y. That way you could put in cats anytime you want, or leave them out. Of course then you'd have to do the AIR delete, so it pretty much ends up being "six of one, half dozen of the other" as they say.

In PA emission is county regulated. Last year I could have ran anything on my cars but the last time I went in they did a visual and I faild with the Stealth TT. lol Damn rule changes **** me off. My Iroc will now pass for classic plates so we know what that means. hehehe

Why would you need to delete AIR if you had an interchangeable Y-pipe system? I was swapping cats in and out on my WS6 for awhile, and I never removed my AIR system as I saw no need. Never caused any issues.

As for sound, after running at least 10 different exhaust combos on LS1 cars, I can say that how good (or bad) an ORY will sound all depends on the catback. Example: Using something like a SLP 2OTL system? The ORY will sound FAR better. Using something like an SLP LM system? Definitally go with the cats for better sound. IMO.
