Default Gauges in, question on a/f

I put an a/f gauge in the car just to fill up the last space, wasnt sure what i wanted to put in yet. My question is the a/f gauge just jumps from off the charts lean to stoich... etc... rich if im on it. Is that how its suppose to be? im assuming its just reading the 02 sensor cycles. Also the reading change when i turn my lights on???? Its not a lighted gauge either...any ideas? Thanks! Other than that i love em, the vht plastic paint matched my interior perfect.

as far as i know that gauge is just for rice appeal. if its reading the stock o2's, you won't get any accurate a/f readings. you need a wide band o2 and a different gauge. but those are pricey, but effective.
